VTEC Head

OK FrostByte kinda ansered this in the "turbo" forum but I wanted to ask here as well to get some more opinions. I have a 98 DX and want to add some more power to the vehicle, but I'm not really excited about dropping $3K or more on a turbo or Jackson supercharger or swapping out to a B series engine. What would be my gains of just adding a D16z6 head?

i dont think its worth it, you wont make any more than a regular d16z, 125hp, even if you went with the d16y youd only make at most 127hp, those are of course stock numbers...if you can do the work yourself then you might get some satisfaction out of a job well done, but if someone else does it, id imagine it would cost about as much or close to a b series swap, turbo, or jrsc...personally, i would go with the b series swap...the initial expense may be rough, but look at it this way, b series motors, transmissions and parts are cheap and abundant just like d series parts only they make more power...half the cost of a swap is getting the rest of the stuff to make the motor work...(shift linkage, mounts, driveshafts, maintenance stuff, etc...), for example, i just finished a b16a swap on my 1990 si, cost about $3500 cdn when all was said and done (thats everything, plus hidden problems i found with the car along the way)...but, if i pop my motor, i can go and buy another one for about $500 cdn, and i also have the option to get one off an auto tranny, less wear...

i got the z6 head for 80 and p28 ecu for 50. Thats 130 bucks spent. add gaskets and you have 200 bucks. Well worth it in my opinion, better than intake or exhaust. plus if you want you have couple cams available for it. i think this is better than almost any other swap/upgrade that i've seen, with exception of nitrous kit.
just my 2 cents.

What kind of power upgrade am I looking at here. Oh and just to let you know, I'm not really looking for speed (maybe a little), I just wanna be able to pull my jetski with the Civic. Anyone else ever done this before? I have two conflicting opinions right now...
