'93 G20 adapter question
I ordered the adapter from Crutchfield to allow me to plug in a new head unit into the existing system. Hooked everything up and only the front speakers worked and they didn't have much power. I turned my head unit up to full volume and turned the adapter all the way up and it was average loudness. I know I installed it properly. Any suggestions? I'm assuming that the '93 G20's need the adapter. I'm assuming that the sytem is a Bose with the factory amp. Are my assumptions correct? Do I need the adapter for this car?
Thanks all! |

Your stock system is NOT bose, it is Panasonic, manufactured by Mitsushita, and your factory amps are by Clarion. I'm assuming here you DID go through the factory amps, and that your new headunit did NOT have preamp outputs? Or did it? More info is needed...

Schoonveld here..for some reason my password isn't working, so i setup another account...
Anyways..basically, i have a Pioneer DEH-345 head unit that has sub preouts. I got the "adapter" from Crutchfield to allow my head unit to work with the car. I did not do anything with the Preouts or the factory amps. I did go through the factory amps. My question is.. do i even need the adapter? Do I need to somehow use the preouts on the head unit? I hope this helps some. -Schoonveld |

By adapter, I take it you mean the wire harness adapter???
My experience is that with the wire harness adapter the install is much easier, and mine had no problems. I installed a Pioneer DEH P6300 just a few months ago. I do also have much quieter front speakers because only the rear speakers have amps running to them, and when you have a powered HU running into amps, naturally those speakers will be louder. As for you not getting any sound to the rear, I don't quite know what to say... Oh, and the stock speakers are Clarions with crappy paper-type cones. Those blew long before I even put in the new HU, so I only can speak with my experiences with my "aftermarket" rear deck. Hope this helped atleast a little bit.
