Trany let out
I was driving the other day and my car suddenly dropped to first, made a scraping noise and wouldn't leave first. Then I found out that I can't put it into reverse, it acts as a neutral. I need some major help on this because it's my only car and I'm not too finacially sound right now.

Re: Transmission acting up
Well, to me look like the tranny is busted. A least 1 g you might need to fix it. Clutches, GOvernor or something big like that might be the problem and to get to them you have to break the tranny appart.

Re: Transmission acting up
Ripn12s, there is a round piece that you can pull out of the tranny. I was told that it is related to shifting to reverse. How you call that? and it is for shifting to reverse?

Kil,
There are alot of round parts inside the transmission. Hawk, You're going to have to take it to a shop. My car was just down for 2 months waiting on money and specific parts for my trans rebuild. $1600 bucks |

Re: Transmission acting up
Ok, let me try this once more. There is an external round piece that has a pinion going into the tranny. It is not exactly inside the transmision. I have heard locally that technitians call it "gobernador" (a.k.a governor in spanish) and is related to shifting to reverse. WHen you get the tranny repair kit you get the gasket for it, it is not serviceable. When breaks you have to replace it.
That is what I am talking about. If you still do not know what I mean that is ok. Thanks anyway. Hawk, when mine was replaced was because did exactly the same thing and the engine died on the process and as Ripn12s said. IT is a makor overhaul. IT has to be rebuilt |

Re: Transmission acting up

Kil,
Only thing remotely close to what u r talking about is the Reverse Servo or the Foward Servo. Those r the only 2 "round" things I can find in my manual that wouldnt require the trans to be opened up. Hawk, Another option might be to find a 2nd tranny and just put that in, but a shop will charge you about $500 just to drop and swap. So you're still looking at about a grand. One other thing, Is the Range Selector Cable still together?? Its the cable in the engine bay around the airbox side of the motor. It has a rather large connector holding the 2 ends together. Loss of connection integrity of the 2 metal couplings can cause loss of transaxle shift control which could result in personal injury - - GM Service Manual |

Re: Transmission acting up
Ripn12s:
That is correctm the problem that I have locally is that as in this example the technitians translate something like the forward servo to the "gobernador". Thanks a mil. Hawk: To tell you the truth my dad has a 90 lumina, was lucky to find a 4to60e with decent mileage ($450.00) and to install it cost him around $500.00. Problem is that even tougt the guy installing might waranty his job no one even the scrap yard would waranty the tranny being installed |

The problem persists as I originally described but I try to "baby" the car with my driving and it's something I have just lived with. Thanks to all for your input.
I did take this to Aamco for a free diagnosis. They couldn't tell that much was wrong but when I drove around with one of the techs, he noticed the obvious problem. He didn't have a definitive solution but read the codes from the CPU and found a few errors. He suggested taking it to a dealer or shop to troubleshoot. I still need to do this. |
