Exclamation Fujimi has quietly retooled their RX-8 body!

Recently I got the Amemiya Mu RX-8. I had previously built the first RX-8 Type S, and was disappointed w/the front bumper assembly, the headlight and taillight areas.

Well, apparently Fujimi has quietly dealt w/these issues. Looking over the Amemiya kit, I immediately noticed that the front bumper is separated from the body where it belongs, at the leading edge of the hood. Then I got out my Type S, and noticed more...

The overall width is about 4mm wider across the front fenders, which are noticeably wider and a bit flatter across the top and down towards the lenses. The headlight buckets are now a separate chrome piece, and the taillight buckets are also separate chrome pieces, with proper detailing (doing that detailing on the early version was a BITCH to get to look right).

The leading edge of the hood is wider as well, by about 2mm. I noticed on HobbySearch's site that the Veilside shares these changes, and I see that the Veilside has a stock front bumper, which is all one piece and looks in the picture like it's not too thick like the early version.

The end result is that the front of the car looks much improved. I'm stoked, I assume the Mazdaspeed version will also get the improvements. I wonder if later versions of the stock Type S have also received the improvements? I would think so, as the Veilside has all of the stock body parts.

Now...they could stand to upgrade the seats which are still far too short. But at least it looks like they've fixed the worst of the body issues. Very good Fujimi!

Bob, you're are so right. Over the weekend I met up with hirofkd. I was erroneously shipped a Veilside RX-8 by HW. I gave the kit to Hiro, and he noticed the same new tooling you mentioned (since he has the older RX-8 kits). I remember when I looked at the Veilside RX-8, I thought, "this doesn't look that bad" (after all the postings on the original RX-8). Some of the new Fujimi kits are being very un-Fujimi-like. We speculated that maybe Fujimi got some new people making better masters. Maybe this might be a sign of good things to come.

Now I'll definitely be getting the Mazdaspeed RX-8.

I looked a bit closer and compared the position of the headlamps between the two, the new version has the entire headlamp unit mounted a bit further forward and a bit lower than before. I guess they simply rushed the early RX-8 out, and decided to fix it later. They can't get the Mazdaspeed version out fast enough for me!

Things are looking a lot better from Fujimi these days. I can't wait for the Gallardo and hope they'll be doing the roadster version of both it and the Murcielago.

Good news, the initial release was quite poor IMO.

Any chance of putting together some pics to show the differences for us Bob?

Since I can't read Japanese, I don't know whose models these are-otherwise I would credit the builder, but you can see readily see the differences. They did much better this time, the front end is much closer to the real car-about as good as we'll ever get from Fujimi. Great website, talented builder of very cool models!
