Question Oil Changes

Just got a 2002 Corvette. Regardless of manufacturers recommendations, how often (miles/months) should I really be changing the synthetic oil? thanx.

Re: Oil Changes

I personally change my synthetic every 3months or 3K even though I only put 5,000 miles (total) on my vette last year. I would say no more than 5K max.

Re: Oil Changes

The above is corect.. i never put more than a grand in miles on my Z06 Lpe..and i change religously at 4 months.. With M1 1 30.. and a half quart to the toal of 15w 50 Since i live in a rather hot climate

Time is not as critical as miles when using sythetic oils as there break down does not even approach the best dino oils..

The above is corect.. i never put more than a grand in miles on my Z06 Lpe..and i change religously at 4 months.. With M1 10w 30.. and a half quart to the toal of 15w 50 Since i live in a rather hot climate

( 5w 30 was tested and the result ws its really a 6.9 w 30 and 10 w 30 is really an 8 w 30.. so you can't go wrong.. since im a TT i like to use the slightly heavier.. as to relieve the incresed heat under boost

How is it that Corvettes can use synthetics brand new and other cars have to "break-in"?

Re: Oil Changes

depending on how you drive you can change the oil between 3 and 5k safely. oil life is generally based on engine revolutions (atleast recently it has been) not on miles driven. so the harder you drive, the more frequently you should change. tests have shown that, under normal driving conditions, oil pulled from cars at 3K miles still had over 70% life to it. now i dont know what engine that was out of, or what is considered normal driving conditions but youre not going to hurt anything waiting a couple extra miles if you have to...
