Le Mans Contest Entry - Spyker C8 Double 12R LM2003

Hello all,

after a long (very long) time of inactivity I'm back (I hope). Good to see the car modelling forum is still here, and also good to see familiar names, good to see you again.
And even better to see a contest on a great subject: Le Mans.

I recently bought a Provence Moulage kit. It's a Spyker C8 Double 12 R.
It ran with number 85 at Le Mans 2003. Driven by Coronel, Simon and Hugenholtz. It did finish, 30th overall.
Being a Dutchman myself, I'm rather proud of "Team Orange", and of Spyker. (Spyker also build airplanes, and also the golden state coach, still in use today by the queen)

Spyker in the past (1903):

Spyker at current (2003):

It's the first time I'm building a 1:43 kit. It's from Provence Moulage. The kit looks very good. Nice resin cast. Great photo-etched parts. In my opinion it's a good quality kit.
I'd like to enter this model for the Le Mans contest.

Only one small hole to fill. Luckily my Putty didn't dry out.

I hope to show you some progress pics soon.

Marco.

Yeah! Another unusual car entry! Great choice! I wish you good luck with it!

Seems like there's an increasing number of 1/43 modelers on this forum...

Small update,

I filled the hole and primered the body.
It needs some sanding here and there, but overall it looks pretty good.
Not much progress.

This is one reason I enjoy checking this forum. I'm almost embarrassed to admit before reading this post I barely recall even hearing the word "Spyker", much less be able to identify the car if I ever saw one. Thanks for enlightening me. I look forward to viewing the progress of your work.

Hi Ray, Phil, Zeljko,

nice to see you guys again. I don't post often (not at all) nowadays, though I try to read every post, and I see much excellent work. Great to see all the quality build models.

Ok, so, I managed to get some progress on the Spyker.
2 wheel are ready. (I only need to apply the decals)

The wheel comes in 6 parts. (brake callipers not shown on picture)

The inlay resin disc (the white part on the picture) was painted XF-1 flat black.
Painted the wheel nut with an underlayer of X-11 with x-13 (metallic blue) around the nut, and a dot of X-27 (clear red) in the middle of the nut.
The brake discs were painted with X-19 smoke. The rest was left as-is.

The spokes should be bend with the little resin tool supplied.

Put the spokes onto one part of the tool.

Put on the other part and press. The rims should now be somewhat curved.

Test fit.

The result.

Compared to the real wheel.

Next problem.
What is the colour of the Spyker? Orange?
PM say it should be 'Peugeot EBL Scottish Yellow'
Searching the Internet for this color did give me 1 result, which was not much use.

I then contacted Spyker themselves with this question. What is the exact colour of the Spyker which raced at Le Mans 2003?
I received an official answer which states that Pantone 151 is the official colour. (The whole Spyker team wished me good luck on building the model, great, isn't it)
Right, that's the same colour that Orange uses of which the colour Pantone 151 is a trademark (Orange, a mobile operator, was the sponsor of Spyker).
Now I need to get the right paint, preferrable a model paint. I found a color chart with some color codes for Pantone 151, which results in 4 different colors.

Maybe someone of you can help me find the exact paint to use.
See you next time.

Thanks, Marco

Well, i can't help with the color, but i can say that model is GREAT ! You made a very good job with the wheels, and the model itself looks really well molded.

I pulled out my Pantone guide and found the color is very close to Tamiya X6 and Gunze H14. Either one should work as they are both very very close to an exact match.
