94 Lebaron overheating

My brother has a 94 Lebaron GTC, lately it has been overheating. It is leaking (or possibly burning) coolant rapidly. I checked all the hoses myself and had a shop pressure test all of the hoses and there are no leaks. The thermostat also goes up and down a lot while driving the car. Any ideas what the problem is? My bet would be the coolant pump, but I'm not too familiar with Chryslers because I drive a Nissan Maxima. Thanks for the help.

Jon

The first thing I would do is replace the thermostat. Quick, cheap, and easy. It is also the part most likely to fail in the cooling system.

Would the thermostat also explain the leak? I thought of that with the way the temperature gauge goes up and down, but I didn't know if it could explain the leak. The thermostat is only 10-15k old, but I'll try replacing it anyway.

I have the same problem. On mine, though, I noticed that the hose the coolant runs through touches part of the valve cover, and it burned a little hole in the hose. I order a new hose and some other part so hopefully it will be fixed by wednesday.

It turned out to be a leak in the radiator. We ended up just having to replace it all, hopefully yours is just the hose because it was not cheap.

The parts come in today so I hope it's only the hose.

Great. I just screwed up my car. Me and my friends went to replace the coolant hose. The only problem is that the part the hose screws onto the engine in the back was already cracked. So after about 45 mins. of work, we broke it the piece off. I don't have a job yet, and I know this will cost a lot of money. This REALLY sucks.
