Looking to buy at 99 Grand AM SE....

I went out looking for new vehicles last night and found a 1999 Grand AM SE. It has about 50,000 miles on it...

Depending on who you talk to, they either like it or hate it. Does anyone know of MAJOR problems with this vehicle?

Thanks for any help!!

This was the first of the new generation grand ams , had lots of recalls and any make model of car on its first year is gonna have trouble. If all the past recalls were taken care of and the car runs good , you should expect to pay around 8,000 dollars or more for the car. or less

Re: Looking to buy at 99 Grand AM SE....

Honestly I have owned a 99 grand am se for the last 4 years and it has been great until this past month. I am right now looking for a new engine for mine because mine is (according to 2 mech shops in my town) seizing. Knocking and makeing a loud winding noise every once in a while. Evidently it has something to do with a coolant problem i had last fall. Something to do with intake, gaskets and headers. (all foreign to me but the three things i have heard over and over.) And now finding an engine is proveing to be a challenge too. There out there, i just cant find one for a decent price worth spending the money in labor to have put in my car.
frustrateing!!!
but i will say that i do know other people that havent had the same problem(yet) and honestly i didnt have any other problems outside the regular every day stuff before this.

Re: Looking to buy at 99 Grand AM SE....

the noise that you described sounds like the ac clutch bearings to me , they like to wind when the clutch disengages from ac to outside air. Unfortunately i have the same problem(with the noise) i had it looked over and they say "its normal on these cars" well the ac works good still so i did the old gm warranty fix and left my vents on 3 and play the radio a lil louder , problem solved lol thanks gm.
