hey guys i have a 99cavy and sometimes when im on the road i hear this noise, i dont know how to really explain it, it sounds like if my dash was loose everytime i go over a bump but in this case the noise is coming from under the hood, but then i turn the heater or the A/C on the noise stops.. and also my a/c was working fine like 2 weeks ago and now it doesnt work anymore... all this crap started happening after i was getting on the highway and my tires on the left side hit these rocks.. pretty hard too.. maybe something was knocked loose?.. its almost winter here im not too worried about the ac but iam worried about that noise though...oh one more thing when i turn the car off i hear this like light grind, its a really quick one.. not loud either

i know the noise too. before i got my 97 z24, i had just a 97 rs, and it quit making the noise if my a/c button was on, but if i turned it off, it started again. now in my z24, it does it regardless and it's much louder for some reason. ive been told to check the water pump, and too look at the timing chain, but what does either of the two have to do with the air conditioning is my only question?

Hi I'm new to the site but thought I could help. I have the exact same problem.....I've been told by friends that are mechanics that it is the AC Clutch and the only ways to fix it are to either drive with your AC on all the time, get a short belt completely bi-passing the AC, or replace your entire AC unit. I guess 2.2's are horrible for this.
