weird noise coming from gas tank.

whats up every one,

? i just got a 1984 celica.and i noticed that there is a weird noise coming from the gas tank the park where u put gas in.so i took the cap off and it sounds weird,almost like a low his or shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound.the gas is low so i wonder if its that.if not did any one ever have that if so what was it.

If you had your key on, it is probably your fuel pump. If the key was off, it was probably your evaporative emissions canister returning gas vapro to the tank. Normally, it is silent, but you may have a restriction in your tank or hose.

its when the car is on it makes that noise.and the car wasent started up for a while and when i opened the gas tank it make a chhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound like it was releasing presser.do u think that is something to worry about.or its just from sitting a couple months.

Nothing to worry about. Your gas tank is normally pressurized by the vapor pressure of the gasoline.
