Since my 93 civic coupe is crap, I'm wanting to get a newer or better conditon civc. I've been looking into the 96 and up civics. I'd preferrably want an EX model or the best model of the hatch back. Your guys' opinion, the coupe or the hatch. I like coupes the most, but looking for feedback. I'm wanting to go for the looks and the race side. Now for the info...
Weight differences in the hatch compare to the coupe Size of tires that came on the cars. ( 14's 15's 16's ) Do both the coupe and hatch come with D16Y8? Did any of the 96 to 98 civics come with a 1.7L engine? Are there any other differences in the models between 96 and 98? Is a 96-98 civic worth it? I'm wanting to a motor swap with the newer car. Maybe a B16, a B18B1, or a B18C1 . Any info will be greatly appreciated.![]()

Re: I need some valuable information.
www.edmunds.com has a lot of info on the different models. It won't tell you what engine is in it but it will tell you the hp and liter. If you're just going to do a swap anyways then hp shouldn't matter. If you like the coupe more than the hb then get a coupe. The hb's tend to weight less (100 or couple 100lbs).

Re: I need some valuable information.
96-98 Civic HB's came only as CX or DX. The CX is like bottom of the barrel, doesn't come with a radio or even hubcaps. It also comes with an ugly ass plastic spoiler. However, they both come with the same exact 1.6 106hp non-vtec sohc piece of shit. The DX has a few more options and that's it, but both come with 15" steelies.
My opinion is biased, but I'd go hatchy because there are too many damn ricey ass coupes on the road already. Nothing goes easier on the eyes (to a Honda enthusiast) than a nice clean hatch with some power. Check www.kbb.com for used car prices, but last I checked you could buy one for like 5-7 grand depending on the year, mileage, condition, blah blah blah... I've had my little hatch for more than 4 years and I still love them, along with most the other people who have them (even with sohc engines), so good luck finding one. |

Not that i did it on purpose...I was driving down the road the other day when a riced out coupe pulled up on me. I didn't want to race ceeing as it was raining. But you know me, I went for it. He kept up for about a mile i guess, then he gave up. On down the road it started raining hard and i hit a puddle. I'm guessing from the rumors..The water was sucked up through the intake, caused hydrolock and blew my engine. My dad and I took the block apart to find the piston through the head the rod thrown out the block and the part of the oil pan in scraps. So now I have to go looking for another car. This sucks but now i have a reason to get a better car. Oh yeah, went to edmunds and found out this...
96 civic weighs 2262lbs 97 weighs 2460lbs 98 weighs 2504lbs That's all for the coupes. Just thought you guys would like to be kept up to date. More later.
