'93 Grand Am tran. prob
okay, i have a 1993 Grand Am 3.3 V6. When driving the car, for the most part, it shifts gears fine. If i floor it, so the car catches gear, or whatever it actually does, the car accelerates fine until approx. 60mph.. then it just gets stuck, and will not move. If i lay off the gas right before 60, it shifts.. and then will accellerate past 60 without a problem.. but after 60.. if i floor it, just just gets stuck no matter what speed i am at. I've read about a "stuck throttle body" or something of that sort, that is common, but im not sure if this has anything related to it. When i bought the car in October of 2003, this problem wasn't there.. i could floor the car from a stop, and it would accelerate perfectly.. no problems. The car only has a little over 105k on it, and it looks excellent and runs (other than this problem) perfectly.. so its kind of a drag. The 'check engine light' comes on only when the car is in Park and idle for a few minutes... every Older GM i have been in has always had a Check Engine light on, so i just ignore this usually.. if there is anyone with the least bit of insight on my problem, its appreciated, thanks.

It could possibly be the Torque converter, but if the car doens't stall when stopping so i find that one unlikely, but then again my 88 used to not want to go faster "get stuck" at higher speeds and act a little wierd with upshifting on the highway. then the car sat for about 3 months without being driven that's when the torque converter went out. My 02 also had a problem like this, but it was something TOTALLY different, i would completely doubt that would be the cause on your car. If anything have the codes check on your car since you said the SES light was on. Most auto place will do it for free. This way it may give you an indication on what the problem may be. it could be something as simple as a sensor.
