Need info on '93-'96 Trans Am kits

A friend of mine asked me to do a model of his car. He has a 1996 Trans Am WS6. I know AMT has a Formula Firebird, what I need is the Ram Air hood and Trans Am spoiler. Are there any 93-97 Trans Am models? Or does anyone make a resin hood/spoiler for this car?

Here's the hood:

And spoiler:

I believe Revell make a kit with all of the parts you seek.

I was also wondering the same thing...I saw kunta making a ram air trans am in his gallery and searched for one, but could never find it.

My friend's red '96 WS6 Trans Am got rear ended in traffic yesterday. It already spent time in the body shop this year. Both bumper covers are badly damaged.

Both Revell and AMT made Trans Ams of that era with the correct rear wing. AMT also made the Formula. In fact one of Revell's T/A's is marketed as a snap kit. Both kits are good.

The WS6 hood will have to be made, Revell didn't do a WS6 until their '99 model and that hood is much different (my friend w/the WS6 made a killer Firehawk conversion for his updated Revell model). The later Revell kit has the basic rims you need, but they look small...the rims from a Revell C5 Corvette convertible ('97??) with the "export" magnesium rims are decent substitute.

Search for a Revell Trans Am and Corvette C5 CV for the right parts for the project. You'll probably have to scratchbuild the air intake to detail the engine properly. AMT made a '97 Camaro SS, very hard to find, and I don't think it's intake is the same as a WS6.

If the hood conversion comes out good, PLEASE offer it to a resin caster first! We've been dying for a WS6 conversion kit for the '93-'97 era Firebirds for years.

I need a how-to on resin casting. I wanted to make a resin copy of my '03 Cobra hood, with as much putty as it has I didn't want to use the original for fear it would crack.

I don't think the intake will be as big of a problem as the turbo setup. Why can't I have friends with stock cars??

Revell made a '97 Vette?? And a 99 TA?? Where?

I already found a '94 Trans Am kit for $15 on a website. I'll need to see the actual car, I think his has a blue "birdie" on the hood and I have no idea how I'd do that. This will probably be next year's big build.

civicchic, Wish I would have gotten to your thread sooner. The only thing that would work is the Lindberg 1/20 scale kit. The problem wit it is that it is 1/20 scale. Lastly, it was discontinued many years ago. Hard hard kit to find.
However it is the version you need.

This kit is for sale. If you need to know where just PM me and I'll get you into the right direction.
Chris

I saw a few of those big ones on eBay, that's out of my budget and, since the owner is twin turboing his car, probably out of his as well. Also, the spoiler is incorrect and I'd much rather make a hood than that kind of spoiler. Plus, it would be nearly impossible to find wheels.

I ordered Revell's 25th anniversary Trans Am kit from Hobby Heaven, I'll scratch build the hood when it gets here. I also bought Revell's 2004 Snap-Tite Corvette for the wheels, since the actual car also has 2001+ Corvette wheels. I must say, the wheels are very nicely done for a Snap-Tite. Of course, I haven't built one for about 10 years. I feel really old saying that!

I had the model shipped to my mom's place back in Midland, since I won't be able to touch it until I go back home. Since the only custom work is the hood, and I turned out the '03 Cobra hood and the 4" cowl for the true street stang in only a few hours, I think I'll have this car done by Christmas. It won't have the turbo setup on it.

Here's the actual car this time:

So, where can I find a 98+/LS1 Trans Am kit??

Re: Need info on '93-'96 Trans Am kits

I hear ya civichic. It is an expensive kit these days. I was fortunate enough to have owned one of those kits. I was building mine into a hurst edition before selling it.
As for a 98 version, Revell made a kit, but rumor has it, it was pulled from the shelves due to incorrect tire and size. I find that hard to believe, but those kits command around 25-35 dollars. Hobby Heaven may have a few on hand yet. Last I saw Tom was selling them pretty cheap.
As for your hood, I have no doubt it will look good. The hood on your 'stang was excellent. This should be a breeze.
If you need info on Firebird kits give me a shout. I had "collected" every Firebird/Trans Am kit made. I'd like to think I could be of some assistance.
