hey,
does anyone have some knowledge of civic suspension? i primarily want to stiffen up my 95 civic's supsension. also, lowering it would be cool but thats not my primary concern. i've looked around a little and noticed a huge vararity of prices on springs, shocks, and coilovers. it looks like i could get springs and shocks or maybe coilovers for about 400 (not including installation). does this price range seem reasonable? feel free to leave me any advice or tips! thanks, dave |

Re: civic suspension
All depends with the plans with your car. You can get good brands cheap. My cousin bought springs and shocks separate. Eibach and Konis I think...He spent around that much for parts...give or take a little.
I myself would prefer the TEIN SS. A bit too pricey but well worth the money IMO. They should be cheaper for your generation of civic. They cost like $1250 for a 7th gen off their website.

Re: civic suspension
For Tein suspension, hit up www.hpautoworks.com Eibach or H&R springs with Koni Yellow shocks are a very good combo.

Re: Re: civic suspension
First off welcome to AF. There is a suspension forum here where those questions are asked frequently. $400 is on the low end of quality struts/springs. I always say stay away from adjustable sleeves, if you want height adjustable suspension invest into true adjustable coilovers($800+)
Price DOES reflect quality when it comes to springs, struts, or coilovers. H&R makes very nice springs @ a decent price. www.tirerack.com Neuspeed, Eibach, & Tein are also good springs. Koni, Bilstein, KYB, Tokico good struts |

thanks....
so if i go with the low end of things....bout $400 or so (spings and shocks), will they wear out quicker and need to be replaced? also, how much of a performance difference are there between that and something more expensive such as nice coilovers or better shocks and springs? i'm not racing or anything like that. i do want my car to handle A LOT better than it does now tho! any more advice? thanks! |

Re: civic suspension
True coilovers would definitely handle better as you can adjust the stiffness and damping to your liking.

Re: civic suspension
Depends what springs & struts are used together. If you use some junk 2.5" drop springs w/ stock, monroe, it wont last very long. No more than 1.5"-1.75" of lowering for street driving or you will have a harsh ride & tear up parts a lot faster. True coilovers are over-kill for street use, IMO. Instead get some adjustable struts with nice springs(H&R, Eibach, Neuspeed) & invest into a larger rear sway bar kit. True coilovers will out perform standard lowering springs/struts because they are designed for high performance, have adjustable height, compression, rebound, etc(all cab be fine tuned). & they were deigned for each other to work together unlike say Eibach Pro-kit & KYB AGX. H&R cup kit is a nice matched spring/strut about $600.00
Also staying above 1.75" doesn't require camber kits, but can be used. 2" in or more you will need kits for sure. When it comes to handling TIRES are the most important factor. |
