Question Family car

I have taken the liberty of choosin a car for my mom... her budget is around 30 thou CAD. I'm quite confused over what car would be a good choice for the money. She only wants new, Japanese, 4 door cars and dosnt care about much about drivetrain and engine (I take responsibility of telling her how the specs are). These are the ones we've considered:

(all are '04 models)

-Subaru Impreza 2.5RS
-Camry CE or LE V6
-Accord DX or LX-G
-Civic Si (fully loaded)
-Mazda 3 (fully loaded)
-Nissan Sentra SE-R (fully loaded)
-Nissan Altima 2.5 S
-possibly a base Mazda 6

If you could just help me out by sayin which one you would choose and why

Re: Family car

if i had to get a four-door japanese car for under 30k, i would get the sentra. maxima would also be a good car. the new mazda 6 is also pretty cool. but if you dont want a sporty car, get the camry. since i like sportiness, i like the sentra the best.

actually they are all out of my price range...
(cant get a well equiped maxima for under 30k)

While a sentra is definitely a good bang for the buck, its got a very cheap interior (i would get it for myself since I dont mind but my family does). I was just lookin for more of a car with power AND comfort.

The 6 is nice lookin'... hows the engine? Its same price as Accord/Camry right?

Re: Family car

i would probably go with the sentra, just because it is a great car for the price. you do have other choices though, the RX-8 is about 30g and is a quick, semi comfortable car, for 4 people

if you can deal with the looks, i'd go for the accord. they're extremely upscale feeling for such a bread and butter car. they come with pretty good features standard and they're put together well. only thing is i think they're ugly, though i've gotten used to it. if you want lot for your money, the accord packs a whole lot of value. not as boring to drive as the camry, more of an upscale feel than the altima. i see that you mentioned not liking cheap interiors. second choice for me would be the mazda 6 those look good and are fun to drive.

Re: Family car

the rx-8 would be very sweet but its too expensive... its 40 g canadian...

would you recommend gettin a 4 or 6 cylinder?... it can make quite a difference in terms of price...

ps.
Just test drove the Impreza yesterday... im lovin the AWD but the interior just dosnt compare to the Camry, and Accord

Im suprised nobody's mentioned the Acura TSX, a 200bhp Honda based on the European Accord with an RSX-S i-VTEC. Nice interior, great handling (except when compared to a 325i), refined styling, 27,000 almost fully loaded (no navigation). Nothing I've driven in this category comes close to this car. C&D agrees with me and put it on there Top-10. Otherwise i'd suggest a V6 Accord LX. More power, worse handling.

Re: Family car

Some research:

> Audi Quattro A4 1.8T: AWD, 170hp, Nice lil refined ride. Base: $27,510

> Subaru Impreza WRX: AWD, 227hp, a sportsy sedan. Base: $26,545

> Acura TSX: 200hp, FWD, sporty and luxurious. I hear its a pretty comfortable ride, nearly like a BMW. Base: $26,990

> Mazda 6 S: 220hp, FWD, cheap and looks decent. It's a 3 litre V6. Base: $21,620

> Nissan Maxima SE: 265hp, FWD, Big car with lots of power, getting about 20mpg on a 3.5L V6. Base: $27,490

> BMW 325i: 184hp, If you squeeze your budget a little bit... but what they hey, its a BMW. Base: $28,495

> Mercedes C230K Sport: 189hp supercharged 1.8L four banger. It's a Mercedes-Benz, need I say more? Base: $28,710

There are a few more sedans (EVO, G35) out there, but they're either out of your price range or didnt really catch my eye. I wouldn't mind shelling a little extra out for a BMW...
