Installed a 6 disc HU in my 03' no sound! :( Help!

Just bought a factory indash 6 changer radio 2003..
I installed it, and it lights up, and all functions seem to work but no sound... It does come up with a "Cal Error" so I have to have it programmed.
My question is, others have told me that I should still get sound even when I get the cal error? is this true? I have Bose in my truck.. did I buy the wrong head unit? doesn the bose/non-bose used te same head unit? Do I have do buy a differnt amp for a 6 disc changer radio?

Also I have the steering controls and onstar, not sure that makes a difference.

So sould the cal error cause the sound not to play? or does it just cause some functions not to work.. I don't want to pay GM to tell me my new radio is not compatible with my truck... The part number of my new 6 disc is 15196055

P.s. My cousin works at a GM dealer part time, I might be able to borrow a tech II tool. If I could get a hold of one, is this programming something I can figure out easily? whats involved?

I have heard of people having problems w/ Bose systems not matching up. Hope it's not that serious, though.
