I have a 1993 300z 2+2 TT. I love the car, but am now faced with about $2,500 to replace the transmission. The car has 128,000 miles on it, but is otherwise in almost perfect condition. Would most people suggest that I pay for the necessary repair or ditch it and go for something else. Thanks.

Re: Is my Z worth keeping?
i would stick with the car and when buying the transmission, get a performance tranny. its worth the extra money. if u have an automatic, i would buy a manual, it weighs less and is funner.

any warning signs
I just bought a 91 with 114,500 miles. And now you are scaring me. Did you get any warning. $2500 sounds about right but that is a serious commitment. If you have fed other money into the car and it is in great shape otherwise do it, but if its average and will need other work, just buy another one at $4000 and feed another $1000 into it like me.

Re: Is my Z worth keeping?
a 2+2 TT? Did you buy it that way? I see from your profile that you're in Virginia, so that means that you're in the U.S., so someone did a tt swap on the car. Buying another one just like it would be quite the feat indeed. Not everyday you come across a 2+2 TT. Repair and/or replace the tranny, I'd say.
What else do you want? Obviously something else has caught your eye or else you wouldn't be so 'torn' all of a sudden. Most Z owners wouldn't even think twice about whether to fix or replace the car. |
