Boost?
Does anyone here know how well the Miata responds to boost? Internals and rebuild wise... I know adding a turbo kit to any NA car is going to cause some internals problems, but do the Miatas have a certain thing that you need to watch out for?

well flyin miata's turbo kits are set to 9psi for stock 99+ miatas, they run over $4500+ but they include an ecu which is very good from what i've heard. This setup will run reliably, if you want to set it at a higher psi you may want to get forged rods and pistons to bulletproof your bottom end, with that you can boost more than twice the 9psi setting. You'll be running some killer power so you'll also want to invest in a high performance clutch also.

my buddy has a 90 miata with the flyin miata fm2 turbo and the link ecu. he added an intercooler and has the boost set at 12 psi with no internal engine mods. the engines are very strong and he has had no problems with this setup. (a buddy of his runs 15 psi in his with the same setup.) he did have to go with the act clutch and he got the lightened flywheel. he bought the bigger set for the 1.8l. he said if he had it to do over he would skip the lightened flywheel. he also upgraded the brakes and added stainless steel brake lines for more stopping power. he also tore out the rear end and we swapped in the lsd diff from a 1.8l. it can get expensive going for big boost but the grin factor is definitely there.

I've seen a Miata push 400 whp with only a turbo and some other bolt-on bits. It's in a back issue of Sport Compact Car magazine, on the cover there's an Integra, 200SX and Eclipse Spyder, with 400 HP(?) Club written in big font above them.

Re: Boost?
You need to go to miata.net.
See my thread in this forum,"347rwhp miata for sale " its a few posts down from this one. I have links inside with my cars. Look around my site. All my miata's other than the V8 have stock internaled motors.
