Ratdat's Auster made me post this (but mine isn't as good).

Now I know they are not the same thing entirely, but he sure is using a lot of 510 parts in his model so it kept reminding me of this little car... It's far from being my best work; I didn't detail it much at all (I didn't even paint the rubber around the windows and the chassis detail is barely there, I even stole the driveshaft for my S2000) but it was a fun model for sure. I know Ratdat's car is supposed to be a hardcore racer, so These aren't even really comparable... But after seeing his progress I decided I just had to post this little guy.

I was going for a SCCA clubracer/solo look. In fact, it's "modified" to be able to race in the Streed Modified class in Solo (except for the omitted passenger seat). I kept the logos to a minimum, and everything but the numbers came off a decal set I got from someone around here who prints them. Anyway, I thought I'd share it since even though it's not great, it was fun and I am a little proud of it (I scratchbuild the interior). Now I kinda want to go back and detail it. Ok, so enough blah blah blah... tell me what ya'll think.

It certainly looks rough enough to have campaigned a few seasons in SCCA competition. I think it looks pretty good. A bit more stuff in the engine bay, like a brake master cylinder, and it'd be stellar.

Your hood pins are..well.. real pins! That's a nice detail. It's got the right look for sure and the interior looks great. While the old Revell kit might be a bit lacking by modern standards in molding quality it's a great one for building into something unique with a bit of scratch building. It does make a convincing race car.

I'm amazed you managed to get those Libra rims looking so decent too ..on the tree they look pretty bad. I've got a couple of these kits waiting (well one and a half now) to do and one day I plan to do a super detailed BRE car. I've got dozens of pics of the real car as reference.

I did do one along the same lines you've done yours but I've broken it up for parts for my Auster now. I never did get it finished completely

Man, Ratdat, yours is really killer. Just goes to show how cool and versatile this little kit is. I wouldn't mind building it as the BRE racer, that's a cool car. Anyway, yours puts mine to shame. Now I feel silly.

Oh, and the hood pins are from Detail Master. They totally rock, they use needles for the pins, and have photoetch for the little striker plates on top of the hood. They also provide photoetch pins to go through the needle, as well as tiny wire to secure them to. The set is really impressive; all you need to do is cut the needles short and drill four holes. It looks convincing, and actually works. I still haven't used the pins or wires, though, but I think I will when I go back over this car and detail it better. And the wheels, I used a sharp blade to cut the chrome flash (for some reason it's just chrome) away, coated them with Testors Dullcote, painted the spokes Testors steel, the bolt area black (drybrushed steel) and the nuts Testors silver. I was surprised too, saved me some money since I didn't have to buy new rims.

Outdoor pics when I've gotten it better detailed. Thanks for the kind words guys! I really didn't expect that sort or praise for this.

I'm going to have to get started on that diorama of the Mid-Ohio esses in case we all get together and want to display all these great club racers.
