Selling 92 VR4...what price???

My brother is selling his VR4. It is a 92, 120K miles. Car exterior is in excellent condition but engine needs about $900 worth of work. Other than that car is in decent shape for a 92.

I did the blue book value for him and it comes out to around $3000 but he says people have told him he could get more because it is a car alot of people want.

So I want to get people's opinions. Is asking anything over $3k ridiculous?

and

Is anyone interested?

This is preliminary, we are working on getting some pics and a site of documenting the car.

thanks all!

I would guess if it needs 900 in work, you could get at least 5500 for it.

Depends on the work that's needed. If this is internal engine work , it isn't even worth $3000 , to me. External engine work , such as replacing a turbo , MAF , exhaust mani , etc , its still only worth about $3500-$4000. I'd like to know what kinda work was required , so I could get a better idea. I know of 1G DSM's (91-92 specifically) in mint condition , no problems at all , barely scraping 100K miles , that sell for less than $2200. This is a 92 with hella miles , and needs work to boot , not like a low mileage car in mint condition.

found out from my bro that the work thats needed is only maintenance work that the dealer recommended.

I told him to set his mind on 5k max. That way he wont get surprised.

Thanks!

Yeah , prolly Timing-belt replacement and assorted filters and other stuff. Not really $900 worth of work , just what you'd have to pay the dealer to get it done. If the car is in pretty good shape, he should get $5K at least for it.

I don’t think 5K is out of line for the car, if the interior and transmission are in good shape aside from the engine repairs you’ve mentioned.
