Supercharger: opinions/advice
I have decided to go with a supercharger instead of a turbo. Someone told me I would need twin turbos, something about the engine being in a V configuration, is this true?
Anyways I have a 1996 with a 3.1L engine, what superchargers are compatible with my car? Which would be better, a turbo or a supercharger, and which would be easier to find. Thanks for your input, William |

With a turbo setup, you would be much better off going with twin turbos. If you wanna save $$, hit up a junkyard for an old Chrysler Turbo LeBaron or other Chrysler Turbo 4-cyl car...the whole car can be had for about $75 if you're lucky - but you really just need the turbo and the exhaust manifold. Check out Omni-Turbo for info on these cars and how to make a custom turbo setup on the cheap. You're gonna need someone with welding skills, and some creativity, but it's a really cheap way to get started on turbos. Later you can upgrade to larger Mitsu turbos...I considered turbocharging my D-Wagon, but it has 10:1 compression, so that's a little unrealistic. Good luck!

Re: Supercharger: opinions/advice
I have a 1995 3.1 and I've already went down the turbo/supercharger road. It is possible to do what you want, but without a lot of custom engine components you wont be able to run a boost level worth having. I know a couple of places that can get you fabricated parts but low compression pistons alone will run you around a thousand dollars. I recomend getting power from the engine itself. The 3.1 V6 has a lot of untapped power and for as much as you'll spend (time and money) getting a turbo or supercharger for your car, you could do a lot with the engine, trans., suspension, etc. If you've got the money then go for it, but I've found it's a lot easier to tune horsepower out of the engine than force it out with a turbo.
