i too am having rattling problems. i thought it was the exhaust, but i just replaced the whole catback and it's still happening. i have an old s13.

???

i too am stumped. my old school local mechanic said it could be coming from the transmission or maybe the header.

what part of the trunk is it? i could have absolutely sworn it came from the exhaust system or the rear antenna.

i fixed it for a couple of weeks but it just started doing it again, i just don't think they latch well enough, so there is play and thats why it vibrates and rattles, im about to go put some rubber washers on the contact spots of the trunk door (where the rubber washers on the door meet the metal on the car) and what i hope that will do is make it latch a little harder because i can't seem to do it any other way. i'll tell you if it does the job.

Whoa forgot all about this thread... but you know what the rattle is still freaking there!!!! Mark your s13 is diffrent from the s14 so your problem could be from something entirely diffrent.

Get this, when i rearange shit in my trunk all of a sudden the rattling stops... why i have no ideal. But it will come back the next day. dekand when you drive on the freeway and you crack your sunroof does the rattling stop?? cause if im goin faster then... let say 50mph and i crack open the sunroof the back stops rattling completly!!! i dont get it at all... one of my buddys took his stock HEAVY arss spoiler off and it helped alot. just now everything else is rattling so... Im thinking the suspention might have alil to do with it and the trunk is what everyone else keeps saying cause's it. Well im gona take my spoiler off and put a Silvia K wing on when i take it off lets hope it stops, and when i put the K wing on lets for it dont come back!!!

sanchi, i dont think that will help. my last $1000 in mods was to get rid of that rattle i think its a 240 problem... what does the rattle sound like?

i removed my whole rear interior, removed my spoiler, and got a new catback exhaust. guess what i still hear? ...... popop.. rattle.... popop

this is making me sick in the stomach

i think it's the rear antenna. any of you w/o rear antenna's have this problem?

WHOO HOO i fixed it last nite!!! Ive read from other forums and everyone seems to have the same problem EVERY s14 ever made!!! But im not sure if this is what you did dekand. Where the trunk lock is there are two bolts. Not on the Lid it self but on the trunk where the locks lock togetter.

Well b4 i did anything you guys can take a look at the trunk lid and if it's anything like mine the rear 3 piece lights arnt exactly even or flush. the trunk is alil higher then the body itself. I sat in the car and told my GF to shake the trunk edge and it sounded exactly like it did on the freeway!!So i loosen the 2 bolts that hold the lock in place in the trunk and i droped the lock as far down as it will go. I'm suprize to see there was so much play alowed!! well i just pushed it all the way down and rebolt it back togetter!! close the trunk took it out for a spin on some train tracks and Whallaaa!! MISSION COMPLEEEET!!! NOT a single peep out the back at all. well that would explan why if the windows were open the trunk wouldnt rattle. The trunk would get filled up with pressure and rattle less.

Im guessing over the years all the bumps and stuff just slid the lock up alil... up alil.. up alil till it was loose and would rattle.

Sorry for the rambling but FOR ONCE my car is about as quiet at my 03' MAX!!!! and im so HAPPY!!!

yeah thats exactly what i did the first time, and 3 weeks later it started to rattle again, so i tried it again but it was still all the way down... so i put rubber washers on all the contact points and that seems to have fixed it great... if it starts ratteling again ide say try that.

My car(s13) makes a rattling noise too.It sounds like it would be a loose heatshield or something. It does piss me off though..

Hey ghost, as far as i know all hatch back cars have that rattle its because of the large hatch lid. Is the rattleing comeing from the front or the back??

It sounds like it's coming from under the car near the front/middle..Definately not the hatch

ghost, put your car on a lift, or wheel yourself under there with a flashlight and check all the pipes. i already replaced the pipe that goes to my exhaust manifold / header (see why are 240's so unreliable? ), it was completely corroded and there was a gap the size of a quarter making a huge clicking sound.

GOOD NEWS. after months of replacing stuff i finally found what was rattling in the back of my s13. the exhaust hanger pipes that go on to the hangers... they are made a little long (both on my last exhaust and the apexi duals). one of the pipe was rattling against some kind of useless metal thing in back of the left hanger. im going to take a hammer to it tomorrow and that will def fix it.
