1991 Mustang GT Vs. 1991 Z28 or IROC-Z

I have a 1991 Mustang GT. My friend is going to get either a 1991 or above IROC-Z or Z28. He says the Z28 is faster than the IROC-Z and it will beat a 5.0. Is this true? Either way, does anyone have any 0-60 and/or 1/4 mile times for a 1991 Mustang GT and a Camaro Z28/IROC-Z in their stock form? I'm looking for something like times from an old Motor Trend or something. Any info will be appreciated because I've heard too many differing opinions on which is faster.

You really do not have a clear cut faster car. They are pretty close. It come down to who is the best driver. So, you have to practice at the track of course. Don't be doing anything foolish, like my dumbass use too when I was a kid. Goodluck. If you want to make sure you a faster car, lighten the car up and put some mods on, then you will clearly have a faster car.

i hate to say it

but numbers don't lie. motor trend did a shoot out and the bowties win. that's ok, they won the battle, but we won the war. where are they now?

Naw, I think the 5.0 would win in an all out race. I've seen too many 91s get beaten by a bonestock 5.0

I had an 89 lx notch mass air car several years back and it was completely stock except K&N. It had no exhaust , no gears, nothing. The 5 speed literally pulled away from the early 90 models of the camaros and held its own with the new generation 95s and up. In every experience I had with the camaros of that model it was almost funny. I could let them go first and catch them. The 89 ran almost as strong as my 99 with mods running high 13s. Sorry for the rambling, anyway the 5.0 should win handily with a 5 speed and a half ass driver.

The 305 V8's in the Chevy's supposedly will lose to the 302 in the Mustang. People claim it can take the 350 as well but I have yet to see any proof of that or likewise. I have the 350 completely stock no cat-back exhaust or anything, but never raced a 5.0 so I can't prove its faster or slower. I think the 350 would be faster but probably not that much faster. One slip up could probably cost either of you a race.

If you are sticking to 3rd Gen Camaros(No LT1 or LS1). In bone stock form the 5.0 Mustang wins everytime(305 or 350). The best power number for a 3rd Gen Camaro with a 350 is 245hp. Although this is more than 225. They Camaro is considerable heavier also 350 in those years only had autos behind them.

The 302s were 'reportedly' doing more than a weenie 225hp. There were quite a few factory freaks.

I would bet if you get a IROC-Z fully loaded like a GTA it might lose to a 5.0. My GTA with the 350 weighs 3750 lbs. I don't think just a plain Trans Am or Formula would lose though.

As an addition, just don't race a white TTA and think you'll win, many did low 13's to 12's from the showroom floor

In my experience, the Fbody isn't even competition.

I didn't even bother blowing most of them off the road with my near stock 87 and 88GTs. It was LT-1 hunting.

i've raced one before

To tell you the truth, when my car only had Flowmaster mufflers, and a bbk h-pipe w/cats. I raced one of those IROC-Z cars. Here's how it went, now i dont' know what year it was but it was definately either an early 90's or late 80's model comaro. Anyways, we didn't get to go from a stop cause we were on the highway. Were side by side, all the way through 4th gear (little over 105mph) as soon as i shifted to 5th that's when i pulled on him about 2 cars. I shut it down at about 120mph cause my car was shaking like mad. Now that thing was stock (IROC-Z), and he was keeping up with me till i shifted to 5th. I have a feeling if i was stock.......he probably would've taken me out. Just my experience though.

There is a local F-body club based in my hometown and Im friends with those guys and 305/350 FI or Carbed. The stock 1's have all losed to my stock 88 GT. The 350 are a close. On the highway they are dead even IMO
