Technique used when shifting gears on a large truck or a car without synchros. It is when you push the clutch in, take the car out of gear, release the clutch, push clutch back in and shift to the next gear. On our cars it is not needed since we have synchros. I am guessing you probably heard this from the f&f huh?

i've been known to do this on my grinding B series VTEC trans (Y1), and my friends S1. My friends S1 pretty much had no synchro in 3rd, so this was necessary to get it into third....or you can just let it rev all the way down before you shift real slow

Seems to me that double clutching would slow you way way down in a race...

It would. In racing terms, it's only really done with vintage cars. The dog-engagement (nonsynchro) 'boxes of the last twenty years can actually be shifted quickly with or without the clutch. Outside of vintage racing, nobody's really needed to double-clutch since the sixties.
Some Ferrari owners might tell you otherwise. Remember, they're Ferrari owners. They'll buy any idea that's painted red. I'm guessing the F&F writers just put that term in the movie 'cuz it sounded like racing jargon. Kinda like a chef who adds rice to a recipe without really knowing how it tastes. SS

I know you guys keep rippin on the fast and the furious, but I enjoyed the movie. I know most of the tech. shit was wrong, and most of the cars were way to ricey, but it was still an entertaining hour and a half.

Funny thing about F&F, a lot of the cars didnt even have altezzas, yet all the altezza haters blame that shit on F&F

i think its funny in the begining when the eclise "topped out" count how many times he shifts i think its like 6 or 7
and about this double clutching alot of people think its just popping the clutch in, say when you are in second gear and your gettin your rpms up they just pop the pedal in n out real quick and they think thats double clutching

Basicly all double clutching does is match the revs with the gears.. it prevent's grinding on cars without a syncro. (like 91zc said)
