Toyota Celica 1600 GT

This will be my next project:

Toyota Celica 1600 GT from Hasegawa.

What's inside the box?

I wanted to add some bigger fenders. I bought a Fujimi fenderset and used one of the sets. They fitt pretty good and need some little work and putty.

The watanabe's wich came with the kit looks cool but I wanted some racy wheels in the style of this oldskool car. I think these Technocast TVR's looks nice. Maybe I'll paint the center an other colour.

And I made a new aluminium exhaust end.

Re: Toyota Celica 1600 GT

One of my favourite classic Japanese cars. Normally I find flares kinda goofy, but these really go well with the wheel and tire combo.

Re: Toyota Celica 1600 GT

Yesterday I took some time to paint the body. First I primered it and than I sprayed 4 layers of Dark Blue from Tamiya on it.

In the evening I added some decals and today I clearcoated the body 2 times.

A quick dryfit:

After adding the BMF I will clearcoat it another 2 times and than polish it.

Re: Toyota Celica 1600 GT

Yesterday I finished the interior.

I used grey interiorflocking and black (semigloss and flat) for the interior. The mid console and the tacho unit are painted gun metal.

I used embossingpowder for the steeringwheel.

I'll work further on the chassis now because I have no more chrome BMF and the LHS havn't got any in stock so I have to wait.

Wow! This kit looks noice! The fenders and wheels look right at home!

One thing though is the tires. They look kinda bleh. Stretchwalls would look sick!

Yeah strethcwalls would be nicer and I also have these wheels but I wanted an oldskool look like you had in that era you know? I have these wheels a couple of years and I wanted to use them so I thought this car would be nice. In that era there were no stretchwall but balloon tyres

Re: Toyota Celica 1600 GT

Unfortunatly I still have not received the BMF, but I had worked further with the other things that were left to do.

I started to polish the body. I sanded it with the last pad from the Micromesh polish set and after that I used all tamiya compounds.
When the BMF is added I spray 2 clearcoats on it and polish it again for more shining.

I also finished the frontgrille. I painted it gun metal and removed the paint from the higher details. After that I added the headlights.

Also the chassis is finished. I've lowered it a bit and that was enough. The wheels where just wide enough so it was just plug and play

After that I wheatered it a bit and heated the exhaust.

Hope to get that BMF very soon because I want to finish this model

Kris.

Re: Toyota Celica 1600 GT

I love the colour and the look of the stance in the 2nd to last photo. Chassis weathering is so realistic but the embossing powder on the steering wheel seems a little out of scale. Can't wait to see this finished up.
