proper way to launch?
there used to be a big ol write up on this on purehonda so hopefully whoever wrote it can re-post here.
what is the correct way to launch? i remember hearing about reving up to 1/2 your redline, let foot up off clutch until it grips and then do you dump the clutch and gas it all the way? can you get a good launch without keeping the revs up? just from idle? another question while i'm asking is what is heel/toe shifting and when do you do this?

Launching at different RPM's really depends on a number of factors. For example... launching from higher RPM's is recommended for sticky tires and race suspension... not for stock tires and suspension that will spin and hop.

how can you do that? at 3500 rpm my wheels spin like hell, not to long but still enough for someone that doesnt spin to get ahead. Isnt it easier just to drop the clutch and floor it? or is it not as good as the 3500 rpm drop?

No $#!t That's what I was thinking. If I try and launch @3500 rpm I ain't goin no where. Make some cool smoke though
As far as the actual question, really it is too hard to answer because there are too many factors...ex:what kind of suspension/ what mods do you have/ how good is your tranny/ how good is your clutch/ what is the weather like? Plus a bunch of other things that all play a factor everytime you launch. Practice, practice, practice. Find out what works the best...then find what works better than that.

as a follow up i would like to say that i dropped at 3500 recently and the mofo spined and left tire marks for 10 feet. so basicly i was going no where and was just spinning wheels for 10 feet.

Funny, I was teaching my bud how to launch last night in his FD3S. We found that on street tires and with the power of his car, it's actually best to launch @ 5000 rpm, thats when the turbos are making the correct amount of power to propel the car forward, without a lot of wheel hop, and just the right amount of wheel spin. If he didn't shift fast enough into second though, the tail would step out. So, we're gonna work on it a little more. Plus all thats gonna change next week when he gets his new rims and tires. My Civic gets good launches @ about 3400. I use the total drop clutch method.

well i dropped my stage 4 clutch and not too long after i had a broken ass mainshaft bearing. from "launching too hard" said the tech. so i let my clutch out slower than just sliding my foot to the left now and i get better results. i get like .5 second wheelspin and then i slam second with a small chirp, and 3rd gives a smaller chirp. by then i'f i'm not in front i start crying LOL.
