I need to know which kit to buy, how to build it, and what color it should be

Why is it about every third thread I read is someone asking how they should build or paint their car, or even which one they should build. Damn I do this for fun and for me as a creative outlet. If I built it like everyone else told me too it would lose its fun. Asking for a bit of advice or some opinions is one thing but come on guys buy a car YOU like and paint it the color YOU like and modify it any way that YOU like, and have fun with it and quit worrying that it will be wrong or something. After all its just a plastic car, if you don't like the finished product buy another and build it different or better.

YO...YO ! hold up now, relax. You must remember that society has drained the creativity from most of those people who don't read books, but play video games and watch TV all day. So they find it incredibly hard to think creatively because this is the first time they have had to use their imagination without guidence from a game, TV, teacher, and or movie. Some would tell you everything has been done. I feel what your saying dag65, but people more than likely ask because they are uncomfortable making decisions on their own which in turn will haunt them throughout their entire lives. On the other some people need others help to give them a point of view of what else is out there to build. Lets try to have some compasion.....just my and as well not meant to be offensive or argumentative.

Re: I need to know which kit to buy, how to build it, and what color it should be

This hobby is all about creativity. So I say to all the people here (especially newbies ): Use your creativity, imagination and build whatever YOU want. Ask people what they suggest, but never ask them what you should do. My in this...

If not meant to be offensive or argumentive, what are you meaning to be? Most certainly not factual.

I feel this post was making a point (exagerated) but a point, but it has turned childish. The noobs on this site look up to all the amazing modelers on this website...you should be proud for people to ask your opinion.

Nervestrikes, you have a point, people are most likely uncomfortable making their own decisions, but i doubt it will "haunt them for the rest of there lives" everyone starts here (or modeling) as a noob, in turn when people feel confident with thier skills i think they will feel confident with making thier own decisions.

Re: I need to know which kit to buy, how to build it, and what color it should be

While I agree with the topic of the thread, as is evident by my above post, I think we are being way too critical of the n00bs, perhaps to the extent of being unwelcoming to new members?

The first thing the AF user guidelines reminds us of is to be friendly and welcoming. While I will admit that many of the questions we see coming up(like what color to paint things or how should one customise their model), we need to be tolerant and try to make them feel welcome.

Like many of you, when I see questions which are answered very comprehensively in the FAQ or 'How to' section, I cringe and wish the person posing the question would just do the sensible thing and read those sections.
The same goes for the questions about how do we want to see a model customised or painted, let personal preference reign instead or peer opinion.

I guess what I am trying to say is that, while I am in agreement that is is aggravating as hell to us older members to see the same stuff over-and-over, let's try to be more tolerant of the n00bs(I know it is difficult, but trying is a good first step).

Re: I need to know which kit to buy, how to build it, and what color it should be

Funny how everyone put a "NOOBIE " twist on this one. But I never mentioned anyhing about new people at all, in fact I see the same stuff from people who have ben around a long time also.
Neverstrikes I agree with you on most points. Its sad that in our society no-one reads anymore, hell most don't even use the computer in font of them to its full potential. Theres a little box at the top that says search , its amazing you just type in what you wish to find and BAM a list of sites and links appears.
I saw this alot when I taught art in an Elementary School and it frustrated me then too. I have always been very independent and have self taught myself many things by just reading and researching the subject, then its trial and error from there.
Anyhow no offense meant to anyone.

Re: I need to know which kit to buy, how to build it, and what color it should be

I agree with Darren. I appreciate the respect given but at the same time, people need to develop their own style of building and concentrate on what THEY like to build. They are the ones that have to live with the final results; not us. I love the fact that I can create something from bare plastic and put my own little spin on it. I don't mind helping if I can and a lot of you know I love to help if at all possible, but at some point you have to decide if you want to build for yourself; nobody else matters. Enjoy the hobby or else it becomes a job.
