Pearl white over primer...

Hi everybody!

I just bought some light grey Tamiya primer, and I'm planning on doing one of my next models in Tamiya pearl white. Will the White cover the light grey? I've had bad experiences with grey primer and yellow, will the primer show through the white too?

Well, I have done several cars in white, and used grey primer, and it comes out fine, just make sure you do nice even coats of paint or it wont cover properly, but still, your better off using white primer for white paint, it just looks better, grey primer makes everything appear darker.

Thanks bro. My problem is, I want this car to come out perfectly. I have white primer, but the best kind I can get in white doesn't spray nearly as nice as the light grey tamiya...

Re: Pearl white over primer...

hey ozzy. well i had the problem with grey over white, just wont cover. i would go to fred meyer or somewere and buy duplicolor white primer, and before you paint, wet sand with some 1000 grit that will make the white primer smooth and let the gloss white stick. but try some duplicolor white primer

Re: Pearl white over primer...

Do the pearl white over a solid white, white primer is not very nice looking to put the pearl white over, but it'll be nicer than grey primer.

but it's best if you put it over a solid white.

I used TS27 Matt White as a base for TS45 Pearl White with good results. . . Just be sure to build up the coats in light mists

Ok, so it's white primer, white base coat, then pearl white paint?

Re: Pearl white over primer...

well you can do that or
just white primer then white base.

or white primer, white base then pearl.

OR white primer and a white pearl base.

Pearl white need a white base color

I used it for my Bomex Rx07, look really good, but you need an even white base coat.

it don't cover much, but you can try to mix color (like a gold base, or a silver.. lot of option

no real need to make a white base if your white primer is smooth
