Highway races

Hey guys, we all know the weakpoint of racing a 3G vs a v8. The V8 is gonna jump us off the line because of their rear wheel drive, torque, and if you got a sporty then that too. But how hard would it be to get a 3G to run with a new model mustang Gt when you both are going down the road and you both punch it. I don't care anything about drag racing, but want to be able to run with one on the interstate. Any tips??

Re: Highway races

Powah. The weak point of the 3G GT and GT-S is th lack of power. While Mitsu claims it to have 200 HP, in reality, it is closer to 160 whp.

The new Mustang GT is rated what, 260hp? Of which it puts down maybe around 210-220 whp? that is a 50-60 whp difference. Unless you have invested some money and tuned your car right, or have some type of FI, you will not be able to beat one.

Re: Highway races

Hey with a GT or GTS you should be able to take most v6 mustangs and pre 2000 mustangs. Most people with the v8s or cobras won't even race you, they are mostly old people who can't afford 'vettes or vipers.
IMHO, getting a simple stage 1 turbo kit for the 3g,cost about $3000 installed at your local shop shoudl put you ahead of most cheap civics, cavaliers, hyundai and neon racers and most stock cars.
Think about it. 10,000 for a 2000 GT, 3000 for a turbo. Total = 13,000 give or take 14,000 . You should have between 250whp to 280whp on a stage 1 with the GT, well enough to take most posers.

A 5spd GT will beat a v6 stang no problem. I smoked a kid I worked with had an 02 v6 mustang with 5spd. Both of us bone stock. I have also beat some early 90s 5.0L mustangs.

Re: Highway races

See, the problem with the stage 1 turbo is that it does not exist. The only FI kit out on the market, besides nitrous, is the RippMods SDS (Supercharge Drive System).

they changed to the newest gen stang in 99 not 00, and they actually are dyno'd at around 225-235 so u've got even more power to make up for.

jus wanted to make those small corrections.
