Re: highway racing
Hey, if you have the money, then I would do the following:
Completly change the exhaust, such as changing it to dual exhaust (if not already dual), adding a hi-flow cat (might have to replace the O2 sensors, or the ECM might cause you problems, ask a technician about this), and getting a good hi-flow muffler (such as Borla, flowmaster, etc) You might want to even increase the diameter of the pipe. You prolly have 2.5 inch pipe at the largest, going up to a 3" would help quite a bit. Then add some good headers (I have Hooker Competitions on my '91, they were about $200) All of this will increase your power throughout the entire RPM band and would prolly give you a good 40-60 horses, depending on your stock set-up. All of this will prolly run you about $400-600 Next, I'd work on your intake. Get a new carb/throttle body (4 barrel if you have the money), get new injectors, new adjustable fuel pump and regulator, then I'd get a good intake manifold (I would suggest Victor Jr.) Also, replacing the stock air cleaner and getting a cold air induction would really help (K&N might have a set up for your car)...all of this will prolly run you around $500 at least. If you still want some more power, then start modding the engine. If you want only hi-end power, get a good cam that offers only hi-end power. A stroker kit wouldnt hurt either. And if you want some real easy power, get a NOS injection set-up. If you want a large shot (such as a 50 shot or more), I'd replace your pistons and probably even mess with the heads some too (reinforced springs, retainers, new push rods, etc.) or you're gonna blow something, especially if you run a 100 shot or more. (Dry NOS set-ups are about $600 I think, I might be wrong) If you have any questions, email me at [email protected] I'm not an expert or anything, but I know a lil about cars here and there ![]() Erick J. |

Re: highway racing
first off a vic jr will kill almost any non full out race motor.... the full exhaust is a good idea. and with your efi motor if you want to do a full intake upgrade you will need new TB new upper and lower intake and new injectors use 24 lbs and cold air aswell
stroking your motor isnt worth it unless you have already done heads cam intake and all that and still want more and have the cash to pay for it. nitrous is a quick easy cheap way to gain loads of power. if your after low end torque or high rpm power choose a cam that fits right talk to your local guy at a performance shop who knows something or find someone with a good setup and copy. |

Re: highway racing
oh yeah and i forgot to actually help. i/h/e always works. i don't think i'd waste my time on a throttle body just yet. superchargers are a hoot if you want some good power. nos is decent but not for street racing. track sure. imagine hitting your 100 shot of nos in light traffic and some dude pulls infront of you. bye bye pretty little trans am.
