General Civic questions for yall
I have a 2000 honda civic ex sedan....
Other then oil changes, air filters replacements, and rotating tires I have done nothing else... I'm about to hit 50,000 miles....and have noticed something.. 1. there is a low rumble kinda similar to what kids with them catback exhausts sound like, in other words a "homemade" tuffer exhaust sound, when I changed the oil, I was underneathe and it sounds like its not coming from the muffler but rather the shiny pipe looking peace near the oil pan. any one have any ideas as to what this is? 2. I have also noticed that it seems not to have as much power? Or sometimes it like catches....the transmission I believe, like I'll give it gas and it slowly goes then it "catches" and it kicks forward abrubtly. What could this signify? 3. How often should one do a transmission oil change as stated I'm about to hit 50k miles.... Also can one do a transmission oil change or must it be taken and serviced at a shop? 4. This car is less then 3 years old yet already my A/C is not very cold at all, its barely a touch above cold? I know a/c's need rechargin every so often but on a 2000 Civic already? On a side note I rarely and barely used my a/c thinking the less I use it the longer it would last? 5. where online can I get maintenance schedule sheets? I dont' have access to my manual so I don't know whats up with my maitenance schedule? 6. Another problem is my windows they are pretty weak, with the back rear left one barely closing....is there anything I can do for it? As stated my car is a 2000 honda civic, and I shouldn't think that it should have any problems? don't these cars last until like 150k miles or something? I hope yall can help me out peace one

Maintenance is key!
1. A-pipe 2. tune-up (sparks plugs. cap/rotor, fuel filter, transmission fluid, etc.) 3. Every 15,000 miles. If you can change your oil then you can change trans fluid. Remove dip stick - Remove drain plug - Flush new fluid - Reinstall drain plug - Fills trans 2.35Qts(i think) - Start engine - Foot on brake go through all gears up & down for a few seconds each - shut off engine - check trans level - add as needed with engine off. 4. There could be further problems then a simple recharge. 5. Go to the dealer an get a list from the service department. While your there have the 45K maint. service done Oil/filter change Air filter Valve adjustment w/ new v/c gasket/grommet Spark plugs Brake service(adjustment/lube/inspection) Coolant change 45k service was $339 @ the dealer I worked for 6. The window regulators are going bad. Lube the run-channels(the rubber that the windows slides in) with silicone. Those cars can last to 500K with proper maint., care, & repairs. I have an 00 civic Ex too, and I just hit 51k miles...and it still runs like it did the day I got it, so maintenance IS key. Maybe the climate has something to do with it as well, my car has only been in FL and CA, so who knows.
If you talk to the service 'advisor' at the dealer you may be able to get them to work on your windows when they do the 45k check, without additional labor. Once you get that check done you'll notice a huge difference...if it were me I'd do all of 'jackassi's #2 at home, then take it to the dealer, let them know what you did, and have them do whatever else you feel you can't do. You could take it to any shop, but the guys who work on your make&model tend to know what wears fastest (in your given area most cars run into the same problems) and thus, what specifically to look for. If you want a maintenance schedule, go to honda.com, lookup a dealer with a website, most of them have maintenance schedules and prices online. The 'catching' could be a dirty fuel system |
