General CRX questions, only yall can help
first off what are the differences between the
si dx hf which is the best? which should I get? which one versions have power windows, doors+locks? which version have the moon roof and how does that work i.e. is it similar to a moonroof on a 2000 honda civic ex sedan? I been loooking on ebay and it seems the back interior is different on these cars, some look like its a backseat or a big cargo space what is that back there? can i fit a bike or snowboard or wassuP? I am interested in purchasing one as a daily back up driver, an perhaps pimp it out, but I'm in WI, wit cold winters.... I have one lined up 1990 si 130k, I'm offer $1500 see what he says, he did say there is a grinding noise shifting into 4'th gear? what could that mean? also what else should I look for when I go to purchase this car? its used, private seller? thanks all one

check out this site for crx info http://www.quickhonda.net/index2.htm
a lot of your questions can be answered also by doing a search here. $1500 is a great price for a CRX Si.

If you're looking to do an engine swap, the si would be the smartest choice. You won't have to buy a lot of extra parts (like axles, shift linkage, ecu, vtec wire harness, engine mounts, etc.) if doing a b series swap. You mentioned it would be a back up car it doesnt really matter how fast it gets, but 1500 for an si is a good price like Lady said, so you might as well get that. It already comes with a D16A6 (108 hp) which is a good engine to have if you wanted to "pimp it out"

the "SiR" you speak of is JDM (released in Japan). only way you will find one here for sale is if it has already been imported....or import one yourself. it will be rare you find one for sale in the US.....and if you do it will most likely have an expensive price tag.

the EDM (european version) was called the VT 1.6i...aka the EE8 edit: before you say there isn't a difference between the edm & jdm, there is. the huge main difference: edm = LHD and jdm = RHD

if you knew the difference in the first place then you wouldn't have called it a SiR i don't know why you want to try and talk like you know something i don't. here...let me enlighten you on the ENGINES & some other differences: Top model of the 4th generation Honda Civic was the JDM (Japanese domestic market) SiR (EF9). It is equipped with the 1.6L DOHC VTEC engine (B16A) that delivers 160hp @ 7600rpm. The VTEC system is tuned for optimal performance unlike some later VTEC engines like the 5th gen. EDM (European domestic market) VEi, SOHC VTEC, tuned for fuel-efficiency and the VTEC-E(conomy) models (VX). The B16A was a very technical advanced engine for its days and still is today. It is a short stroke 4 in-line that delivers its max. hp at 7600rpm and the redline is at a astonishing 8000 rpm. Later generations B16A's can be found in the next generations Civics' and in the Del Sol (CRX for Europe). Europe's equivalent of the SiR was called 1.6i VT (EE9). Although it was also equipped with a B16A engine (B16A1) and the same SiR front-end there are many (small) differences. For one the EDM version ‘only’ has 150hp (SiR 160). The exact reason for this is not very clear, the head is the same but the VT does not have a knock sensor. A theory is that the EDM VT has a different ignition timing and is detuned because of Octane ratings (JDM 98RON, EDM 95RON). The VT has slightly different gear ratio's, also the SiR has the speedometer in the center of the gauge cluster, the VT has a "normal" layout. The biggest difference off course is that the SiR is right-hand drive and the VT left-hand drive (except for the UK and Irish models). Both the SiR and VT have rear disk brakes and larger ventilated disks in front. The suspension also improved and is (compared to the other 4th gens) different in many ways. The B16A engine was also available in the JDM CRX (EF8) and EDM CRX (EE8). Again the CRX 1.6i VT and SiR have a different front-end and the VT has 150hp and the SiR 160hp. Also the VT has a lot more goodies than its little brother the 1.6i-16 (1.6L DOHC) like full leather seats, power windows, power mirrors, low fuel indicator light etc. For some reason there has never been a USDM (United States domestic market) 4th gen Civic/CRX VTEC. The Si (1.6L SOHC) was the US top model. But off course there are a lot of hybrid 4th gens with the 1.6L DOHC VTEC and non-VTEC engines.
