Double Clutching

Now.. I dont want anyone to get the wrong idea I got this from Fast and The Furious, but how does it exactly work? I was watching a cousin of my double clutch in his Integ Type R, heel toe'ing etc... I dont quite grasp the concept. All I know is that it's the best way to downshift, as opposed to the jerk you get when you dont do it right. So how do you exactly do it?

double clutching is for shifting up i thought, but i guess it can be done for shifting down also, but the best way to downshift, is to REV MATCH!! just before you downshift, hit the gas so the motor is revving a lil and then let go of the clutch, cause if you dump it when the motor is not revving, that will do damage to your motor as well as your tranny...... i know people who have been downshifting for years, and it does no harm to the tranny unless you abuse it like downshifting into 2 when going like 100 MPH!

double clutching is for trannys with no synchros. if you have a car made after 1950, dont worry about it.

Double clutching is simple: instead of shifting directly from 5th to 3rd (just an example) you clutch, put it in neutral, release clutch, clutch again, put it into 3rd, release clutch. So basically you're shifting into neutral before shifting into another gear. The advantage of doing this while downshifting is that you won't fuck up your synchros as easily.

I think you can buy the parts from Honda, but I dunno if it is worth it to rebuild a tranny - It is more intricate I think than a motor rebuild...i would like to do it someday for the experience, but I am pretty sure I'd do it on a tranny I wouldn't mind junking if I screwed it all up :o - for most of us, I think just buying a used one for ~$200 is a better deal.

Im just asking about this, because within a year or two I might be getting rid of the 4g4d, and possibly get a mint 2000 ITR, but who knos? My cousin was teachin me this stuff because he keeps his ITR in awesome condition, engine-wise and tranny, and all that good stuff. Oo boy.. my cousin changes oil religiously once a month, even if he doesnt make it past even 1000miles. crazy huh?

yea.. but u gotta admit it is a good skill to have when your driving stick. Forgot to mention my cousin races often down at the tracks. I think he placed 2nd in a full race. He's pitted against all the other Integ Type R's.
