'97 305 needs some work

I got this old van that I want to fix up for work. There was a lot of gunk on the front of the motor. When I cleaned it off, I noticed the lower intake manifold gasket pinching out right below the EGR valve, and suspect this might be the source of the gunk. I could live with the truck leaking a little bit of fluid, but is it possible this could be part of a larger problem?

How big of a job is this?

Should I do the repair? Is it like a head gasket, is there oil and coolant getting mixed up inside there with the gasket failing like that? And if I do take it all apart, what else should I do while I'm in there?
