Why should I buy a Montana?

Hi, I am thinking about buying a 2002 Pontiac Montana 3.4L FWD. It has 52k original miles appears well maintained in excellent shape and history except dual AC doesn't work. I'm sort of gun shy Ive had very good luck with the Chrysler 3.3L but don't know anything about recent Pontiac engines. Is this a reliable van or is it another fix or repair daily type operation. Any experience with the Montana will be appreciated.

Re: Why should I buy a Montana?

The first problem that jumps out is the fact these three GM vans (Venture, Montana and Silhouette) have the same 3.4L engine with a LIMG (lower intake manifold gasket) fault.

Regardless of mileage they can start to leak coolant into the oil pan ths causing damage to bearings, crankshaft journals, etc.

IF this leak is caught IMMEDIATELY, and the gaskets replaced, oil and filter replaced and coolant changed there is a 50/50 chance of saving the engine.

One clue to a leak starting internally is having the coolant disappearing from the reservoir and the oil turning a light brown milky color.

Aside from the usual problems like corroded wiring connections in door switches (For power windows, locks, etc.) the rocker panels tend to rust out prematurely.

I had a 2000 Silo and have been there, done that.

Re: Why should I buy a Montana?

Thanks that's a big help I suspected a design flaw. Also found several people who repetitively blew head gaskets. Looks good but likely will just avoid it don't need the grief of a van I thats hard to keep on the road right now.
