Replace VCR with standard DVD on 2001 Venture WB edition

Can I replace VCR with Standar DVD?
I own 2001 Venture WB edition.
is it powered with DC to AC converter or directly to DC?

The stock VCR should be a 12v unit. You can use a standard DVD with a very small inverter (DVD's just dont draw many watts, like 20 watts or so), you could use a relay keyed off the ignition to energize the inverter....... good luck...

No problem, the lower wattage (like 75watt) inverters can be had for around $20, check harbour freight and other discount stores..... Good luck.

Re: Replace VCR with standard DVD on 2001 Venture WB edition

You may be able to grab one of the 12-volt DVD players that don't require an inverter. I don't have the WB Edition so I can't measure the hole, but something like this unit looks like it should fit nicely:

That particular model is sold out, but there are others available.

@Lesterl - does this VCR unit power on via 12+ (independent or dependent upon the radio/head unit) or data port harness pin? A friend of mine who has a similar Venture asked me for some radio help and I wasn't sure about that VCR setup and haven't been back there yet. Probably do a full radio install there but did think twice about that VCR (not having seen one before). Was concerned with data port hookup that might interfere with safety chimes.

Thanks.

Re: Replace VCR with standard DVD on 2001 Venture WB edition

Nice link, I think the $129 pricetag makes it kinda rediculous tho.... Too bad they cant just make a cheap unit that is 12v. You can purchase a cheap Magnavox DVD player at Walmart (small unit also) for $29, If you catch a sale, or have a coupon you can score a small inverter for half that cost and have less than $50 in a player you can replace cheaply if it dies on you.

As far as the wiring on the VCR, I never got a chance to work on one of those, I suspect they just switch the 12v power feed to the unit, but I am not shure.

I suppose you could get a cig lighter plug and wire to the feed for the VCR, plug the inverter into it, plug dvd into that, and go. If not may have to run a relay hooked to the ign on feed to switch power to the inverter.

Whatever you do, keep us apprised of your progress as this is something I am not familiar with, thanks....
