I know that the muffler system on the 5th gen is one of the changes Nissan did to vary when the valves open for cruising or WOT. I believe the design of the stock air boxes are different as well.

The difference though in the 4th & 5th gen is almost a moot point because the 4th gens are lighter so the difference in the hp was done to make up for all the extra weight the 5th gen Max gained.

The 4th gens due to their lighter weight have better 0-60 times and the 5thgen usually catches up with the 4thgen before the 1/4 and pass them due to the way the vvt shift adjustments in the engine and the valves on the muffler opening for WOT at the higher end< this is the reason 4th genners opt for the MEVI to be able to continue pulling higher in the rev range and on the top end of especially 3rd gear.

I'm not certain as to what other changes were made but I know that the muffler is one of the major ones.

The 5th gen has variable intake. The 3.0 has 2 intake runners... it switches from long intake runner to the short at around 5000 RPM... If you look at the dyno sheets, the 4th gen runs out of breath and HP begins to drop at 5000 RPM while the 5th gen keeps making HP all the way to the red line...

Thrasher, you are correct, it was a typo that i couldn't catch before I hit the Submit button, that should've only been credited to the muffler for the way it varies the opening and closing of the valves (BTW, are made from Inconel)<a metal based substance used in high speed military aircraft.
