Completed - Subaru Impreza 1998 WRC
Just completed – in fact you can still smell the glue..!! OK, this is my second build, and is the 1998 Monte Carlo WRC Subaru Impreza Rally Car by Tamiya. Built Out of Box, and this build was a challenge for me. I had a few disasters along the way, one of which involved TS-13 clear. The progress thread in my signature will tell the tale of what happened. Once stripped of all paint, thanks for the advice from all those who helped me I managed to get a pretty decent shine. I didn’t polish the car, I applied the decals and I took P-MAN advice with clear and decals – I didn’t do it. Instead I waxed the entire car with Tamiya Wax.. Great stuff. The shine is amazing..!! I have never applied so many decals to a car body before, and I think the decals turned out pretty good considering it was my first full body decal job. I had a lot of fun building the car, but I also had a few moments of total despair. Freakray was very helpful and provided me some parts that I broke, to enable me to finish the model – Freakray – Great guy..!!
OK – here is the model – enjoy. And yes the antenna are still loose. I’ve got to glue them in, but I first want to test CA glue with metal to plastic, as well as clear glue and see which one works better without making a mess.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Excellent job. It looks like all the painting and stripping and headaches were worth it.
Now do another! LOL |

For all the problems you had it came out pretty nice looking in the end. You will learn from your mistakes(we all make'm)and go on to better things. It really looks great,

And thanks for all the nice comments. It was a great learning curve, hopefully the R34 GTR V-Spec Skyline will have a few less problems..!! |

Re: Completed - Subaru Impreza 1998 WRC
Thats a First Class Job on the (Ive said it before and I will say it again) best looking of all rally Imprezas. Does the white colour of the exhaust represent a ceramic coating?

I was thinking the same thing. I believe other Subaru models call for flat white on the exhaust as well.

Re: Completed - Subaru Impreza 1998 WRC
Dang... that's sweet. Then again, it is a Suby and I love them all.
![]() As for the white exhaust, the real car's exhaust is ceramic coated aluminum cat-less pipe but covered in fire-proof exhaust wrap that looks like a huge white gauze bandage. I have some pictures of the under carriage of the 2003 WRC Impreza somewhere and that's one of the details I remember. The back box (muffler) looks like a big piece of white plastic too, not sure of the material but, I think it's just a white spray-on heat coating over aluminum. E
