confusion!! need expert advice

i want to put a b16a vtec head on a b18b block and probably run vtec conversion oil lines. And MAYBE type R cams if im lucky. OK Now the questions. What kind of gains can i expect with just the head conversion and vtec conversion? Is it worth the money and effort i hear mixed reviews about b16a heads such as they are unreliable to wonderful. On top of all that mixed confusion i hear gsr heads are better than b16's. What should i do i just want a 210hp motor that is reliable and simple for a newbie like me. NO forced induction i hear too may horror stories to try turbo. I appreciate everyones help in the past and again everyone here at the forums you are the best i have learned more in the past 4 weeks reading postings than my entire 5 years of college. lol!

well, LS/VTEC's (B16 or B18C head on B18B block) are nothing new, if you hit up google and search "LS/VTEC Tutorial" you may find a step-by step thing to help you out. i dont know exact numbers for the power a well built LS/VTEC is putting down, but when they hit VTEC they are said to really come alive and be screamers.

Re: confusion!! need expert advice

http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/b20vtec/b20vtec.php this site has a tutorial on how to do the LS/VTEC conversion. This is just like anything, if done correctly and maintained correctly it can be reliable and powerful. But if done wrong or not well maintained then it will almost be a guarantee that it will fail.

Re: confusion!! need expert advice

if you run an ls/vtec conversion running a stock b16a head on a stock ls block with light mods (i/e/h) your looking at about 165 hp at the wheels. The converson from a stock ls motor to this setup is well worth the money because there is a lot of room for growth. With a set of type r cams, sprockets, pullies, and hondata tuning your looking at about 190-200hp at the wheels. but if you really want a powerful all motor setup you have do take your block and head to the machine shop, invest in some forged pistions to get the compression up to 10-11 and get the head ported and polished then your looking at some serious gains. With this kind of setup you can safely make 250hp at the wheels. Check out some of the b18 block setups at jgenginedynamics.com It may be better to just buy a new complete setup.
Oh and if you dont want to spend a lot of cash on a na motor. A b18b motor can be SAFELY tuned to run at 10psi and will make over 200hp at the wheels.
