Need Expert Advice

I have a 94' Accord EX with 105K miles. Three days ago, replaced timing belts, water pump, engine seals, head gasket. When I went to pick up my car, I test drove it and found that the car shakes a bit while idling, but dissapears when driving. This did not happen before. The mechanic said it was normal due to the new parts and should go away. Anyways, it still hasn't gone away and is annoying the hell out of me. Should I bring it back to that mechanic and make him fix it? What could be causing the shaking?

Re: Need Expert Advice

no tell him to find the cause of it, check the motor mounts. none of the things he had done should contribute to shaking unless he also forgot to re-adjust the idle.

keep taking it back and complain.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to bring it back and complain like hell. mechanic said it just needs a tuneup to fix problem but I got suspicious he was trying to milk me for another $250. I said no, didn't need tune up. I'll tell him to find out what's causing the shaking. Thanks.

its not normal.

he might missed mark on camshaft. when crankshaft not in phase with camshaft rough idling will be present. combustion chamber must be perfectly sealed for combustion cycle. and when its not, fuel mixture ignite too late or too early (depends on camshaft position) causing engine vibration.

Brought it back to mechanic, told him he had to fix it. Turned out idle was too low and timing was off a bit. Shaking and vibrations for the most part is gone but still vibrates a tiny bit. I guess I can live with that for now.

Thanks for all the replies. Accordztech hit it pretty close. The mechanic kept playing with the idle and got rid of most of the shaking, but its still vibrating slightly. Now the engine whistles a bit during acceleration. Prolly need a tuneup since its got 105k on it when I bought it. Might bring it elsewhere this time.
