Is this recommended?

As a novice who just ordered a Helms manual online, is it advisable for someone with little experience to work on his own car using this manual and this great messageboard? My car illiterate friends said no, it's too technical and dangerous (yes, they are wusses). They tell me stories of people they know that got electrocuted, burned or their car fell on them. What stories can you share on your first go at it? Any funny ones cause I'm sure I will have some embarrassing moments. Just hope I don't kill myself or the car.

Helms are the best.

Just use common sense and take the time to think things over a couple of times.

Read the book carefully, it should explain EVERYTHING, even the basics of jacking a car up.

Re: Is this recommended?

If you can't follow directions you should NOT be working on your car. Always disconnect the battery when doing work, this way nothing can get fried.
Jacks are lifting devices
Jack stands are supporting devices
It kills me when I see people working under a car held up by a jack only.

They are not Helms, that's who supplies the factory repair manuals. They are actually HONDA
