Arrow '99 Silverado 5.3 Starts, then dies

I have a '99 Silverado with the 5.3. It will Fire up as soon as I hit the key, but will die immediately. It runs for about 1 second. After about 15 tries over the course of 10 minutes it will start and when it does it idles fine and runs good. The strange part about it is that it's an intermittent problem. It has happened twice in the last two weeks (1000 miles) I have read alot about the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel pump problems, but these symptons seem quite a bit different because it fires right up and then dies. It has 75K on it, the fuel pressure regulator was replaced at 46K. It has started fine and run good for a week now. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem ??

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if you have about 61PSI. It may be the remnants of fuel in the fuel body for that 1 second.

Mine did that one time, and I checked all my electrical connections under the hood, like disconnected and then connected, and that seemed to make it stop.

All I got to say is if it starts doing it again, its going away.

Question Happenin To Me

I read the symptoms about how the truck fires up and shuts right down and this has just happened to me in the last hour.Truck is now sitting in a Zaxby's parking lot until morning.Hopefully I can arm myself with a solution by then. It's a '99 Silverado Z71 with the 5.3
Truck has 201,000 miles and been meticulously maintained. This is the first problem I have ever had with the truck. It has been a great truck.Ironically I made the comment before I shut it off to go eat that its getting time to look at new vehicles. Must have heard me,hehe....woops. I did some limited diagnostics with what I had with me.I am getting fuel to the rail, but do not know the pressure. How can I determine if I have a bad fuel pump or bad regulator?First thing I am going to do in the morning is change the filter and hope I have enough pressure to cycle the injector solenoids and maybe keep it running. How could I determine if it is a problem with the theft deterrent system as stated being a cause above? I tried all the connections and tried to start it up until my battery was warning me to save some juice for tomorrow.Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated. I'm a do it yourselfer and really prefer to tow it home and diagnose and fix whatever the problem. Like I said...the truck has never given as much as a symptom to running poorly.Only problem that I have encountered for the last 100,00 miles is an intermittent fuel gauge. Thanks in advance for any and all help!!!~ 00Bullitt

Re: '99 Silverado 5.3 Starts, then dies

Here Are A Few Things You Can Try. 1 A Malfunctioning MAF Sensor May Cause A No Start Or Stall After Start.disconnect The MAF Sensor If This Corrects The Condition Check Connection If Ok Replace Map Sensor .2 Check Ign Relay In Under Hood Fuse Box A Non Operating One Will Cause A No Start Condition.3 In Under Hood Fuse Box Check #23 Fuse This Controls MAF Sensor Camshaft Sensor If Bad Replace If Goes Bad Again Check Wiring To MAF Sensor And Camshaft Sensor For Wire Rubbed Thru.to Check Theft Deterrent System You Really Need A Scan Tool.good Luck.
