Anyone know how to remove the gas tank on a 1999 Chevy Suburban so I can change the fuel pump?

chiltons walks you right through it. pretty much, jack the burb up real high. support the tank with a hydraulic jack. (oh yeah, syphen out the gas, it sucks if there is gas in it.) unbolt the guards and straps that hold the tank. SLOWLY let down the tank using the jack. then using a couple wrenches undo the high pressure lines. undo the breather lines. theres a wiring harness that unclips somewhere along the chassis. the harness does NOT come undone right at the tank. its hard to see, but trust me, theres nothing to undo right at the tank, follow the wires till you find the clip. it is about 1.5 feet away. then lower it down. the rest is cake. you just use a brass punch to spin the ring that holds the pump in, carefully pull it out, and the rest is all she bang. pretty simple really, just follow your instincts. itll take you 3-4 hours if its your first time, so plan for it.

Re: Gas Tank
Don't forget to deal with the filler neck. Make sure you take off the gas cap. Make sure the tank is empty. Also realize that an empty tank is the most dangerous tank in terms of a possible explosion (a full tank can't explode). No sparks, flames or cigarettes allowed anywhere in the vicinity of your job.
