Gas Odour / Gas Tank Replacement

I noticed a gas smell coming from my 89 Blazer. I bought a new tank for it yesterday. I removed the lines noticed that the Vent line did not have a hose clamp on it, and removed the rest of the lines and electrical connections. When I got the tank down it looked not bad, and I cant see where it was leaking from. Regardless I bought a new tank and I was gonna use it. The sending unit was rusted out real bad. So i made a decision last night to get a new one. Good thing, because when i went to remove a line ( fuel return ) it snapped off.
Today I got the sending unit, and the parts dealer suggested replacing the pump, saying I wont want to do this again for a couple years
Put it all together replaced the Emissions hose that goes to the cannister it was cracked. And no more gas smell.
There were a few small problems keep an eye out for.

TIPS:

1) When you buy a new tank make sure it has baffles, my gas guage moves alot now.
2) Getting the new tank on was next to impossible, however using a hydraulic jack was the only way to get one strap started, after tha you are okay.

I was quoted $ 275.00 to put in the tank only. Once the shop would have gotten the tank down they would have nailed me for install of sending unit and pump. In Short I saved ove $ 200.oo by doing it myself.

Hope these tips are usefull to other blaze owners.

I've got a '87 and have a rusted leaking gas tank. I just finished ordering the parts and decided that since it was 18 years old I would replace the sending unit and pump. I didn't think about a tank with baffles but it already on its way. oh well...

Sorry to bring back old topics, but I've got a '90 S15 Jimmy 4x4 with a brand new tank (installed by previous owner) that is leaking out the top - I tried to pull the tank down, but I couldn't get the bolts to budge.. any idea as to why a brand new tank would be leaking out the top like that? (When I say leaking out the top, I mean that only when the pump clicks back and turns off does it start coming out). Is there some sort of trick to getting these harness bolts undone?
