Tamiya paint confusion

Hi,

Just wanted to clear up a few things.

1/ Whats the difference between Tamiya TS-17 Gloss Aluminium and T-30 Silver Leaf?

2/Why do X-31 and X-32 (Titanium Gold and silver) cost more than the other acrylics?

Also could any Japanese speaking modelers translate the back of Hasegawa's polishing compounds (Ceramic Compound and Coating Polymer)? I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks

Farrokh

Answer for #1

Gloss aluminum looks like gloss silver, where silver leaf looks like spray chrome/polished aluminum, it has much finer pigment and is somewhat reflective, but turns more to silver if you clearcoat it. Gloss aluminum for bodies, silver leaf for detail parts is pretty much what I use them for.

And in answer to your second question, X-31 and X-32 don't cost any more than the rest of the Tamiya bottle paints at my local hobby shop.

Sounds like your local is trying to make some extra money?

No... actually it depends on what size the bottle is. If it is the mini paint bottle (almost same size as Model Masters), X-31 & X-32 will be same price as normal paints.

But if u buy the larger bottle, all metallic paints, even bronze paint will cost more.

Yeah they're all the same size. I can't find the large size in the UK anymore. For some reason they're charging 45p more for the Titanium colours.

So Silver Leaf is just a silver with finer pigment than TS-17? Thats good because I normally avoid metallics because the flakes look so out of scale in 1/24.

Thanks

The Titanium paints do cost more. If you are buying them for the same price someone at the store did not see the difference in price. I don't know why but it may be that the pigments cost more in these paints.

That's the store's loss, not mine

And the way the owner of the store can be, I don't feel one bit bad if he is taking a loss on them (fortunately the employees are pretty cool)

Weird. In Japanese online shops (e.g. Hobby World) they cost the same as any other paints.
