i suggest that if you wanna build a car you should not use a never car like ur camaro because you run into problems like your saying the knocking. the is no way you can take your engine out yourself and fix it because of all of the computer upgrades because things get to confusing. if you try to fix things yourself you could just brake somthing else. I suggest getting an older model car and make a built up 68 or 69 ss row thats what im gonna do. well what ever you do the best of luck to ya.

Ahh Dont listen to him.

Theres nothing really hard about rebuilding or removing/installing a motor. Just unbolt and unplug everything from it that you need to and yank it out. And reverse the process for installing. If you're worried about it, theres numerous books on the subject of rebuilding and pulling/installing motors. Dont be thwarted by it, give it a try.

If you want to build the 305 motor up, i suggest you rebuild it with forged internals: crank, rods, pistons... at least pistons. Cause nitrous will chew up anyother type of piston.

Your best bet though is forged everthing internal. And look into a Supercharger, Procharger for instance makes a direct bolt onto your car. I personally feel that'd be your best bet for the 305. Not many companies make aftermarket heads for the 305, cause not to many people bother with them. The bore and stroke of them isnt a great combination along with the stock heads dont flow for squat. Porting the intake and heads will help you out, free flow exhaust will add to that. Dont need worry about bigger heads if you go for a Supercharger though, it doesnt care it just force feeds the air into the combustion chambers anyways haha.

You can order free info from Procharger:
Procharger
Order some free parts catalogs:
Jegs
Summit Racing
Pace Performance

Hope you get your project going.

That's BS. It's not hard at all. You say it's a 92? Is it a tuned port? I've done this myself with a 305 EFI, and it's not hard it's just time consuming. All you do is unplug and unbolt. All of the connectors are different so you really can't plug anything in to the wrong thing. The hardest part will be getting wrenches up around the top of the tranny bellhousing to get the bolts out, it's a tight squeeze. Just try not to miss the grounding straps that attatch to the back of the motor when you put it back in. Get yourself a cherry picker.
