Have you checked fuel related items? Does it turn over when you turn the key but won't start? Need a little more info.

It is getting fuel. It seems like a timing issue but the timing belt is good and is on time. I think the distributor might be off time.

The diz can't get too far off...it only mates to the cam in the right position and they only have a few degrees of movement for setting timing. At any rate they'll run in any position it could find itself in.

Is it possible the timing belt jumped time? Just because you see the cam and diz move is no guarantee valve timing is not off...a failed tensioner can let the timing belt flutter enough to for a sprocket to slip,

Also, how are you verifying fuel? I assume it's fuel injected, right? I think they all were by that year but not positive. If so you need a pressure reading to be sure, injectors on most cars won't work right (if at all) below a minimum pump pressure. So if you just push the Shraeder valve on the fuel rail and get spray, it doesn't mean it's getting ENOUGH pressure to run.

Easy enough to rule in or out...shoot it a shot of starting fluid and see if it fires on that. If not, you don't have to look any farther into the fuel system, it's not the problem.

And, stupid question here...but you did VERIFY that it has spark? It would suck if you did all that and it was a bad coil wire or coil...

It is definely getting fuel. Pulled the #1 spark plug out and it smells of nothing but fuel. I was messing with the spark plug wires and it almost fired on me twice then wouldn't do it anymore.the guy that I bought it from told me he had the tioming looked at and did a spark test which he said is getting spark and it is on time. I am leaning towards timing because it seems to be more of a timing issue. it is cranking but won't start.

Re: 1990 Accord EX No start

Well for starters, at the moment it's apparently flooded. Any further cranking with just make it worse.

Whenever you crank it now, you need to hold the throttle wide open. Even if fuel injected (you didn't say), holding the throttle at WOT while cranking puts the injection in "clear flood" mode, shutting the fuel off so the motor can dry out. Regardless of what else is happening, you'll never get it started if it's wet with fuel.

I'm still thinking you might have spun the timing belt...I've had them fool me before where they seemed to be throwing spark on time (at TDC) but turned out they were firing on the exhaust stroke.

I guess you did verify the cam is turning? You can either take the diz cap off and watch the rotor, or just look into the oil fill hole when cranking...
