2002 T&C limited Engine knock

I hope someone can tell me how to fix.. or at least tell me how to know if it can be fixed...

about 1 wk ago, while driving my wife heard this knocking. it don't matter if its idol or accelerating, it knocks.. and it is gettign louder. someone told me of a knock sensor... can that cause it? or is my engine kaput
it has 120K miles.. and i just bought it 5 fricken months ago.... is there anything i can do to fix?? when i checked the oil it was bone dry... added 4 qtrs right away.... did i not catch this intime??

was that the fisrt oil change u did??? Im sure a knock sensor will cause that and really its a cheap fix even if it dont fix it.. what really needs to be checked is WHY there was NO oil??

The Knock sensor only senses when the engine is knocking it dosn't cause a knock and for the most part wouldn't stop a knock

If it was 4 qts low on oil thats more than half the oil that leaked out so you have to look for leaks

If it is still Knocking determining whether it is a rod knock (major problems) or a valve tappet (a problem maybe you could live with) is the next step

The 3.3 liter engines are great and will last damn near forever, but you'll have to keep the oil in it... I just bought and flipped a 2001 Caravan that had a rod knock because the guy ignored a rear main seal leak...

You can get engines on ebay; I think there are several people in Minnesota that have them for $500 or even less... High mileage is fine if you want to get a cheaper engine; I put an engine in that had 166,000 (car had 146,000) and it ran mint because it was taken care of... Not bad for a $170 ebay special!

Then replace it yourself like I did, or pay a mechanic I suppose... Then sell it...

First, I would eliminate accesory drives as the cause by running the engine without the drive belt. Still got the noise, go to post #3.
