Need Help- 1990 Toyota 4Runner Not Starting

I have an 1990 Toyota 4Runner. V6 engine. Automatic. 4wd.
Today it blew an upper radiator hose. A few seconds after the initial pop of the hose and the spew of fluids the vehicle died.
I replaced the upper radiator hose and the lower hose- and refilled the antifreeze.
There are no leaks as of right now.
The engine will not start. The belts spin whenever the key is turned on. But the engine will not crank.
You can hear the starter trying to start it up.
Jumping the vehicle was of no help. Charging the battery was of no help.

I am a mom with 2 disabled kids and HAVE to figure this out.....
My brother suggested taking the starter off and having it checked.... I have not been able to do that yet- but I want to know what others think....

The vehicle makes a whirring noise (belts spinning) when key is turned, but the engine does not crank at all. The noise stops as soon as you shut the key off.
The oil is clean and full still.

Re: Need Help- 1990 Toyota 4Runner Not Starting

To clear up my confusion, The belts spin whenever the key is turned on. But the engine will not crank? If the belts spin with the engine on, it is cranking. You can hear the starter trying to start it up. You can hear the starter spin, but the engine does not turn over? If you hear the starter spin, I doubt charging and jumping are doing any good.

The "Whirring noise with belts spinning" is what gets me. The noise suggusts starter, but if it is turning over, then there is no starter problem. Wonder why it blew the rad hose? Head gasket these are famed for? Pull out the dipstick and check the oil level and if it is whitish colored. Any chance some coolant got in the distributor cap and is shorting it out?
