I can't figure out which block to change at what time in the pull. I've never been shown how to do it is all. Didn't get a log today, maybe saturday night. Suppose to rain but we'll see.

He didn't got too crazy like a rebuild, but he did the b/s removal, timing belt, water pump, uerathyn (sp?) mounts and new easy to get to gaskets.

I actually thought the valve cover was deliberately painted burnt orange.

What you think it faded or something?

ned032002
05-29-2010, 02:26 PM
It did fade. I talked to the guy who worked with him in the shop and proved that it was once red and that the heat changed its color. Idk how it happened but apparently the heat did it to it.

Tits and a half dude. First pic is the winner. Some minor touchups with lighting, and that's a pro shot.

Smoked lights look great.
The FMIC looks perfect.

Is it stock suspension?
Is the marks on the front of the hood dirt/paint chips?
Do you have screen on the drivers side grill, but not the passengerside?

ned032002
06-01-2010, 10:19 PM
I did a little touchup on the 1st pic but nothing crazy and that too is my favorite!

The smokd signals was done with vinyl too.
I love the FMIC too.

1.KYB GR2 struts w/ Eibach springs
2.Paint chips. I did one photoshop of a pic w/ all those dings in the paint. Looks decent but you'll see what I mean below. I just started messing with Adobe Camera Raw today, fairly easy to use.
3.Yes, the drivers one is on but the passenger side one is still in the garage. That one is only pinched in there and until I figure out a better way of securing, it's going to just chill there.

Was having issues with loosing power in the higher rpms. I believe it was because of the short filter I was using. So I managed to gain 2 inches by trimming my intake pipe and coupler and relocating the vac line barb. Managed to get a bigger filter in there.

Getting ready for my tune at STM on the 29th.

I probably wouldnt lean so much towards the filter as to the MAF adapter. The cheap ebay style your using (no offense) obvioulsy blocks part of the MAF sensoring area. The K&N like I have on my car, is oval and doesnt block any part of the sensoring area. Just a thought!1!!

Also what MBC is that? Hallman Pro? I made a homemade one for my buddies SRT4, with expected results...(not too good), hows the hallman perform? We will probably just go with Diablo Sport....can up the boost and adjust fuel/timing with the handheld controller.

^^he's right. This is disrupting airflow.

ned032002
06-18-2010, 07:39 PM
The air filter is a Spectra, Autozone carries it. I'm just waiting for the 4" maf adapter to show up.

It's a Hallman RX Pro.

LandoAWD
06-21-2010, 06:56 AM
Careful with the Spectre filters. Most have that little "ram air" (lol) cone made of plastic in the end. With a snail sucking the air through, you may just give your turbo an unwanted snack. There's a sad thread like this on Tuners.

ned032002

Do you know where I can buy a 4" K&N filter? I have searched and found nothing.

Double post whore!!1

The kn filter and adapter are at the post office and will stay there until monday morning unfortunetly. Then I work 9-9 on monday so can't install it until after work. Then, I have to do a boost leak test after that and I can't do that here because I don't have an aircompressor to use anymore. So I have to go to my dads and do that monday night or tuesday morning real early because tuesday afternoon I am getting tuned at 1pm at STM in Rochester (2hrs away). Holy procrastination batman! Did get injector seals and orings done along with throttle shaft seals done!

And I'm really digging the plug wire cover

ned032002
06-29-2010, 06:26 AM
Thats a Neds original right there!!1!

It's a black cover w/ a "got boost?" decal. I'm a little concerned of the heat beating the decal to death but I've driven the car a bit since I put that on and have had no issues.

Today I'm going to STM for my tune. I will check in later with an update. I'm a bit nervous about the drive up cause who knows what can go wrong.

david-b
06-29-2010, 11:37 AM
Decal should be fine. I have vinyl on my strut bar going right over the valve cover and it gets burning hot. Usually with vinyl, the heat helps it actually stick to the surface better. Not sure what you used for that, but I'm thinking it should be fine.

Oh, and good luck on the tune. Cant wait to see some numbers and videos.

vanilla gorilla
06-29-2010, 01:32 PM
+1, let us know what the dealio izzzz

ned032002
06-29-2010, 06:26 PM
Well here's the deal

Took her up today and she did good. They got me right on the Dyno and got her ready to roll. 1st problem was getting Link to connect to there laptop but that was solved pretty quick. Had issues with the wbo2 not reading properly in link, need a buffer circuit. They use their wbo2 to get her going. Base hp, 234hp after getting idle looking good and air/fuel straight. Still getting excessive knock. Look for boost leak, none found. Changed plugs cause 1 was blowing out when more boost was added. Installed new plugs gapped at 24. Getting weird dips in hp curve. she tops out then just does a little up down for no reason other than possibly a vac issue, bov issue, or exhaust issue, or something worse. Check all issues and looks like the catalytic converter is probably the issue. So, at 19psi with -7 degree of timing, she puts down 235ish. Trouble shoot'd knock sensor by deactivating it in link and advancing timing to -6 degrees would either not gain anything because of real knock being present or make power because knock isn't really there. Sure enough at 19psi, w/ -6 degrees of timing, and knock sensor turned off...she put down 250hp. So E thinks bad knock sensor or possibly bad gas. Put her back to -7 timing until I get a new knock sensor then I can mess with it some more. Obviously there's a lot more power to be had here.

Ordered the oem knock sensor and should be here in the next week.

Here's a video people. Emery was the driver/tuner/guru

Nice numbers not to bad for a 16g turbo. Need to get that boost up to 22psi or so when you get these problems sorted out.

ned032002
06-29-2010, 06:46 PM
I'm looking forward to just the timing advance benefits. I was hoping for 260 at the end of today and it seems that's within reach next time.

david-b
06-29-2010, 10:18 PM
260 is a piece of cake. Just need to get those little kinks worked out and it'll be there and then some. Car sounds nice on the dyno.

Sounds good, looks good. It can all come together great but in the end its always the little, small, tedious bullshit that you have to take care of. My red car for instance....never really was that fast but ran decent.....I never fixed the little, tedious bullshit.

Tomorrow I'm going to call the local shop here and see what it would cost to replicate my exhaust using 3" stainless w/ no cat. Some of the local guys have said this one shop does work for a good price. So if I can just take the whole exhaust to him and just be like "here's the template, make it 3" front to back". I'll check this place out of town that works very well w/ exhaust work and price it out there too.

vanilla gorilla
06-30-2010, 07:20 AM
Well your lucky. No one around here does any exhaust work with stainless. Hell, no one even does exhaust work with 3" piping.

ned032002
06-30-2010, 04:55 PM
3" stainless turbo back without cat(deleted) and muffler(buy seperatly), $150-$200! Only part I haven't figured out yet, is how to flange the 3" pipe up to the 2.5" o2 housing?

david-b
07-01-2010, 10:55 AM
Is that the quote from the shop or you buying the parts? Not too shabby either way.

If you have some additional money, I'd personally gowith a 3" housing and sell off the 2.5". That way it'll be 3" the entire way, no restriction at all. But you can get piping that goes from 2.5"->3" that would be used.

ned032002
07-01-2010, 12:47 PM
That is the price for me to take the car to them and that's them doing the whole cut, bend, and install from turbo back-to bumber. I'm looking into a 3" o2 housing too.

Test pipes will not pass emissions. There's no honey combs on the inside. If you have to take emissions, you will fail instantly.

ned032002

I don't have to worry about emissions around here especially since its a 91. But visually, is it illegal?
